Discussion about the roleplay and where it will be going goes in here. Here's the plot and rules:

Plot:

A pride of magical carnivores has lived in the lands of Surra for generations, living off of the lush lands and surviving through the droughts in peace and harmony. They have flourished, having many cubs and pups—many of which are products of mixed feline and canine matchups.

However, tensions arise when another large pride chooses to migrate nearby, looking for resources to survive in the current drought. Now food and water are scarce for both canine and feline, and the first pride blames their new residents for it.

It is not certain who made the first attack, but both prides are at odds with one another…

Rules:

-Original characters only, please.

-You may have four characters apiece, but please keep in mind that we need to keep the numbers between the two prides fairly even. The total number of characters is unlimited--in other words, this roleplay will pretty much always be open.

-Wanderers are allowed. They can interact however they wish with either the pride or the pack.

- There will be a single leader of each group. This will be decided on a volunteer/vote basis, and the character may be male or female, it doesn’t matter. Also, if that character becomes leader and has a mate, it does not mean that the mate has power over anyone else. He or she is just another member of the pride—however, the mate can use politics to his or her advantage (i.e., threaten to tell the leader if one of the pride/pack members makes him/her unhappy, etc.)

- Characters are allowed one basic magical power. However they decide to use it is up to them (just look at how many ways Flash uses his speed!). It doesn’t necessarily have to be an elemental power, but keep in mind that writing down strengths and weaknesses makes your character more believable.

- Characters must be feline or canine and follow the TLKGO rules. The subspecies of felines or canines are unlimited as far as African species.

-NPC's can be used by anyone to kill off a few characters for battles, make the prides seem fuller, etc. But please don't over-post with them. They're there for convenience, not as actual characters.

-KEEP UP COMMUNICATION in the OOC/Discussion thread and in PMs for battles! Follow roleplay rules when fighting, ask for permission before 'landing' a hit on someone else (unless it is an NPC), and absolutely DO NOT KILL OTHER CHARACTERS WITHOUT THE PLAYER'S PERMISSION. If you have any questions, ask the other player involved in the post!

EDIT 9/24: Pride names have been decided! Pride 1 will be the "Mwani" and Pride 2 will be "Belbel". Thanks to Kanu and Moto for the ideas!

Two things - firstly, may Sumai be the general commanding officer of the pride once again? (Not the leader, but sort of second in command. This is the part he played in the old RP that, I think, this idea was based on ^^)

Secondly, maybe it might be a better idea to let the groups be mixed species? Since I believe we have mostly feline characters here I feel the canines might get a little outnumbered otherwise... xP

And second... yeah, I was thinkin' the same thing. So I'll fix that and change it to two prides, I guess. XD Though dog-like characters will still be allowed so long as they follow TLKGO guidelines.

EDIT: Modified it so that it's sort of mixed. Now we just need to decide on names of prides and which characters go where

Awesome I might place Satoba and Sumai in separate prides then, to even out the numbers somewhat.

Right, onwards xP Pride names... Since "Pride 1" is based fairly near the sea, I have some suggestions relating to that, all from Swahili:
Wave, or waves - Chafuko, or machafuko
Sea - Uziwa
Seaweed - Mwani (because it sounds cool, not necessarily because of the meaning xD)
Sea urchin - Kishimba (ditto =P)

I like all of those, except "uziwa", really xP

For "Pride 2"... I've looked for some Somali words:
Flame - Holoc or Holac
Flame/Blaze - Belbel
"Travel to a distant place" - Jadeerwaco (thought it could be something since they are the ones arriving, even if it's a bit long)
Journey - Kicitin
Dawn - Barii
New moon - Bilad

Out of these I prefer Holoc/Holac or Belbel :3

Ooh, I like "Mwani" for the first pride. For the second one... hmm. Those are all pretty good, I'm not sure what to pick XD

Some other suggestions...

Pride 1:

• Joto-"heat"
  
• Tanga-"wander"

I still like "Mwani" for the first pride, but for the second one, I'm not really sure :/

And just let me know which prides you want your characters in and I shall change them up :3

For the second pride I think I'm choosing between Holoc and Belbel, leaning more towards Belbel. I like Adimu too, but I thought it could be neat to have the names come from two different languages, thus have the prides kind of be different "cultures". I thought that could add more intrigue :3

Zorayda I could not help but notice that one of your suggestions for the name for pride1 was Amani who just happens to be one of my characters. But I decided to add just a few more suggestions for the pride names but only for Pride 2 because I could not think of anything else for Pride1.

And for the second one, I like Belbel or Jua. But it's up to you guys as to which one--it seems that we're leaning towards "Belbel", though

And like I said, I thought it'd be neat if the two prides sort of differed in culture as well :3 So that, say, a strong value in the Mwani pride is to inherit their land, so that there is little fighting within and around their territory, while in the Belbel pride it is more customary to be more nomadic and claim a new land when they can no longer keep theirs. To them it is natural to fight for what they want and that only the strongest survives.

This would place Sumai in the Belbel pride and Satoba in the Mwani pride. As much as I like Sumai to be the defender, Satoba then simply couldn't be in the Belbel pride... xP

Either way, I'd like to balance them to not have one pride be "good" and one pride be "evil".

That sounds like a reasonable culture difference, Kanu

I kinda want to give the two prides a sort of 'motto' to live by, though it doesn't necessarily have to be a part of the story--just how the 'culture' of the prides differ. Mwani's could be 'peace and prosperity' as well as 'live by tradition', and the Belbel pride would be more like, 'conquer the weak' or something along those lines... perhaps a bit more 'barbarian' in nature, though not necessarily evil by any standards. One would be Athens, the other, Sparta! XD

Good question. Satoba is definitely not leader material. And if the choice is between Sumai and Rey in the other pride we have a slight problem, as it turns out they're both pretty sexist... xD Sumai believes in males as superior and Rey in females. Sumai could never follow a female leader (unless it is Cova's character Xena... =P) and I suspect it is vice versa for Rey. In that case, I will switch Satoba for Belbel and Sumai for Mwani, though I'd rather have them in the same pride now... Hmm... Darn this two-character-rule... xP

Hmm... Sumai could be the leader of the Belbel pride, seeing as it's more of a strength-based pride. As for Mwani... hmm. If Satoba's not leader material, what about either Zor or Moto? Zor is sort of fun-loving and flaky, so that might be tough... though she wouldn't be too far off. I dunno about Moto. What do y'all think?

I think we should wait and see if others join before deciding, though... we need bigger prides!

I'm not really sure what I should do with Moto. He has good leadership skills and his personality would of course make him end up in the Mwani pride even though he hates water.He would not fit in with the Belbel pride at all considering the fact that he is not bad and scorns those who are sexist so therefore he would hate both Sumai and Rey.

Yeah, maybe give it another couple of days and see if anyone else wants to join. Sumai wouldn't be happy to take charge unless he had no other choice, but I suppose the previous leader could've been killed and the leadership had then automatically passed on to him as he was the second-in-command... At what point in the story are we starting? How long has the war gone on for? Or will the opening posts be the beginning of the first battle?

A roleplay like this does need a big cast; I wonder if we can persuade TL/Pulsar to let us use more than two characters each to fill out the space a little more while there's so few of us playing xP Because I'd be happy to throw in a couple more characters of mine. And then if more people join I can always kill them off, haha...

As a special exception to get this roleplay going, you can have more than 2 characters. Have as many as you need to get it off the ground, only thing i ask is to make sure you keep track of them and not make things confusing

I also wanted to try again to choose leaders for the prides.

For the Mwani, we have either Zorayda, Moto, or Satoba. For the Belbel, we have Sumai, Mlezi, or Rey.

For the Mwani, I think Moto would be the best idea as leader, though the vote goes for all of us to choose. For the Belbel, I think either Mlezi or Sumai would be the best choice.

I honestly don't mind who we pick out of these characters. Sumai might be iffy with a female leader, but that could on the other hand add more fun conflict to work out, so any of them is fine by me =P

What up everybody I'm here just like Zorayda said! OK,so I choose Moto as the leader for the Mwani and it has nothing to do with him being my character I just think he'd make a good leader. Sumai should be the leader for Belbel.

Xena is now officially part of the Sumai-canon... That and I couldn't be bothered to make up a new character for Belbel's ex-leader... xD For anyone who doesn't know, Xena was another member's character in the RP predating this one - she was the original leader of Sumai's pride before the title was passed to him with her death. In case anyone needs to refer to her, she was a black lioness with green eyes and a fierce temper.

Now, a little idea I have... Ghedi and Zorayda will undoubtedly meet now, what if they "accidentally start the war"? They could misunderstand each other's messages and/or end up in a fight, bringing back the message to their respective pride that a war definitely is on. Normally I'm not a fan of discussing details of the plot in advance like this, but I thought the upcoming scene with Zorayda and Ghedi would just be such an opportunity to spark the conflict
