“Pretty, kind and mysterious,” Figgy said, wiping under Destiny’s glistening eye. Her coat changing colour to match his gave him pause, but not for long. He smiled down at her.
When Destiny offered to zap them across the countryside like she had a day before, Figgy was more than relieved. I thought you’d never ask! he almost said, but instead consigned himself to an eager nod.
“I’d love that. I’m much better in trees than on open plains. And, err… thanks in advance for taking the hit, so to speak,” he said. He gave her shoulder one more squeeze, then let her go and said, “Ready when you are.” At the same time he wondered what past was after Destiny. Was it killer hyenas? A spurned lover? A herd of murderous elephants? – no wait, that was him. Truth be told, he couldn’t wait to find out.
Only then did he realise he was holding his breath, waiting for Destiny to work her magic.

She huffed with an incontrollable smile that soon grew across her muzzle. She slightly lifted her head as Figgy wiped away her watering eye. Her nervousness soon fading, it's like he had this ability to make her feel better with such few words.
"There is that charm you spoke of" She murmured, shying her head away to stop Figgy noticing that she felt slightly flattered. She soon cleared her throat and gave him a playful nudge.
"It's no problem, it's quickly been established that we help each other out huh?"
With that she started her routine, closing her eyes and picturing the place she could see in the distance. Her muscles twitching and she strained in her concentration. She soon wrapped her paw around Figgy's leg like before and pulled herself close. Her pelt started to turn transparent, which then spread onto Figgy like water being soaked up by fur. Soon they both were consumed by the cloak of invisibility, and vanished. Destiny's vision in her mind soon got clearer and clearer until it became a photorealistic image. She opened her eyes and both there they stood, at edge of the green rich landscape right infront of them.
Like expected, she felt all her strength leave her body, her legs buckled and she collapsed to the ground while leaning against him. She took a few deep breathes then strained herself back up as her legs trembled, using Figgy's leg as a 'help me up'.
Even though she took away the burden of walking all this way thus saving alot of time and effort, she didn't want to feel like a burden herself.

Figgy opened his eyes to see a new landscape. It was green and lush, where the other land had been dry.
"Oh my," he said, then stepped forward, only then to notice Destiny was using his leg to stand.
"Hey you," he said. "Thanks for the short cut... would you look at this place!"
They were atop a small hill, overlooking a landscape green and flat. The mountains in the distance were the same, but the land itself was very different. It looked like a lush river delta, with multiple streams heading into a nearby lake which stretched nearly to the horizon. Only hazy mountains on the opposite side indicated it wasn't the ocean itself.
"Crocodiles live here, I bet. Have you ever eaten crocodile? They taste like pheasant birds... have you ever eaten pheasant birds?"
Just then he noticed how tired Destiny looked.
"Ah, sorry. Forgot about that for a second. You're too exciting, you know?"
Figgy kneaded at the grass with his large paws. It was soft here. Long, but not overly long. A paradise. With a sigh he flopped down onto his side - away from Destiny, a little - then rolled onto his back, stretching. Enjoying the sun. Figgy's enormous belly pancaked to his left and right and was the last thing to stop moving.
"Let's relax for a bit, eh?" he said at last, then patted the grass beside him, inviting Destiny over. His green eyes glinted in his chubby face, and Figgy's whiskers trembled with his smile. "While we recover, you can tell me about these secrets of yours."
With that, Figgy's stomach growled.
"And then maybe, we can get something to eat?" He grinned broadly, white teeth and whiskers.

"It sure is nice, perfect for..." She paused in her words, overthinking what to say. She was about to hesitantly continue, but to a bit to her relief Figgy carried on talking. She shook her head as a lighthearted 'no' to his questions. Until he got to the questions of relaxing, her secrets and food, in which her next sentences could have an answer to all three.
She took a deep long breath and stretched herself out on her back too, almost mirroring Figgy. She gazed upon the sky and clouds that filtered through the thick vegetation and branches of trees, almost as a way of meditation. Maybe it was a too a personnel thing to tell him at such a premature time. They had only just met after all. On the other paw, she felt safe around him, he immediately came across different and kind than the 'others' she had crossed paths with. However, these 'others' - particularly one, she thought the same thing and instead opened up a world of future problems.
She decided to trust her own judgment one more time, after all if he didn't like what he heard or scared him, she could easily disappear. Though it would be a shame as she felt she had made a good friend.
She couldn't help but feel nervous again, she took another deep breath with a slight tremble.
"There is no other way of putting it so I'm just going to try and say it as direct as possible"
She turned her head and gazed at her newfound friendly giant
"Since I met you, I put it in the back of my mind, not trying to think about it too much...but then you reminded me when mentioning that I needed 'a good feed'"
She then looked back into the sky, to avoid any awkward eye contact
"Thing is, you were right.... but for different reasons....I need to eat, as I'm eating not just for me..."
Destiny rolled onto her side, curling slightly and gazed down at her abdomen
"You can't see it, it's too early on at the moment, but a mother knows....along with the stupid mistake she made...."
She huffed a sigh through her nose, with a slight whimper escaping her throat.
"I will fully understand if you want me out of your hair when the time comes..."
Destiny then paused in her talking, she thought it better not to bombard him with too many things at once. In a way she didn't want to scare him off, she started to really enjoy his company. If this first confession didn't scare him off, then hopefully the other secrets related to it may not.

Figgy was silent for a moment, a range of emotions passing over his face. Surprise, concern, and briefly disappointment.
Until she said,
"Pfft. You and your sprouts can stay as long as you want." He turned to look at her, grinning ruefully. "I told you before, more mouths to feed will be better for my waistline.
"So," he said, turning towards her and putting his head on his paws. The very act was like a mountain rolling over. "You said it was a stupid mistake. I respect you not telling me if you want, but why aren't you with your mate anymore?" He put his large paw on her own small one, green eyes full of empathy. And maybe a little curiosity.

She nodded with a faint smile in his remark about his waistline, though she soon started to feel anxious though about what these Cub's, their and her future entailed.
His words made her feel a little more anxious, but it was soon wiped clean when he placed his paw over hers, completely covering over it like a blanket. Showing that he was concerned....and maybe cared ? She let out a long deep inhale as her mind was sent into calm from his comfort.
"It's ok " she huffed lightheartedly.
"It brings me onto what I had to say next..."
She slid her head across the ground and onto her paw, momentarily forgetting Figgy's paw was already there but placed her head on top of his anyway. She felt comfortable around him, and his large soft paw was too. However, she still couldn't help but look to the side with no eye contact because of her story to follow.
She took a deep breath.
"I said earlier about trying to mix with other lions, and that they freaked out like my family did when I let it slip about my gifts."
She sighed as her ears flattened against her head.
"That wasn't the case... One lion was flattered by my gifts, he embraced them, I was welcomed into his pride and they all accepted me. We spent a season together and led me believe that he...had feelings for me, and I genuinely developed feelings for him, I thought that I had found my place in this world."
Tears once again started to form around her eyes, which slowly trickled down her cheek and settled onto Figgy's paw.
"Well as you can assume, nature took it's course when I went into heat. You can figure out the rest." She huffed, almost embarrassingly.
Her tail flinched and swayed along the ground, she turned her head on Figgy's paw and gazed back down to her abdomen.
"A few nights after, I awoke in the middle of the night, and he was not by my side. I went to search for him, eventually finding quite a bit away from the pride huddle, talking to his elder alone. Luckily they both hadn't seen me, and a good thing too, because I overheard their conversation."
She winced her eyes shut with a whimpering growl.
"Their conversation was all about their plan, and 'it had begun'. Discussing and reassuring his love for me was fake, and that he was only in love with my abilities. He wanted to father cubs for his pride, cubs that he hoped would posses the same abilities as mine. Once they were born and grown enough not to need their mother for food. I would be killed in an 'accident' and he would continue to raise them. Any other lioness in their pride would be sure to step up as a foster mother due to my 'tragedy'."
With her remaining paw, she dug her claws deep into the ground out of upset, anger and betrayal.
"He just wanted them...not me. He wanted a pride that could be unstoppable, strong and unchallenged, using and my brainwashing my cubs for his purposes. His future heirs."
She took a deep breath with her eyes still tight shut and exhaled slowly, trying to calm herself down.
"Of course, I ran away after hearing that. But I know he is out there, tracking me down. He wouldn't want to give up 'his' cubs that easily."
Keeping her head where it lay, she curled up her body half into a ball.
"Before I met you, I felt like a nobody and was just waiting for my past to catch up with me, the only thing keeping me driven to survive was my natural instinct....to survive...and my cubs."
She tilted her head, looking up at Figgy with one of her eyes half open.
"Then I met you and your warm hospitality. You would think after my emotions and trust were betrayed once before, somehow I felt safe. Somehow I felt...."
She paused and sighed before she let her mouth get too far away from her, she had spoke enough already. Instead she cleared her throat and glacéd away before continuing.
"Maybe it’s because you have abilities yourself, so I feel less threatened, we are alike so to speak. I don’t know, I’m rambling now”
She opened her other eye and gazed at Figgy large green eyes of his own.
”Figgy, If he turns up, I wont be offended if we go different paths, I don't want your health being put in jeopardy because of my misjudgments. I'll either let him take me back or see if I can confront him. Just because I’m in this ‘condition’ , It doesn’t mean I cannot fight back”.
She closed her eyes once more, using this moment to bury her head deeper into Figgy's comforting paw. For all she knew, it could be soon withdrawn.

Figgy looked down on her as she nuzzled his paw, reaching over with the other one to stroke the back of her head.
"He's a fool," he said at last.
"For several reasons. One: killing the mother with full control of her magical powers is like gnawing off your own foot. Imagine how powerful you would have been together. "And two: you're awesome! Who could not want you around? He has incredibly poor taste, this murderous lion of yours. What a jerk." he pulled a face, like he'd eaten a mouthful of grass. "Also, who can raise more powerful cubs than their own mother? He's a fool." Then he grinned. "I'm glad you got away. "So," Figgy barked, like it was an announcement. "This is what we'll do. We'll make a fortress out there on the swamplands. We'll set traps, for catching fish and crocs and whatever else we can eat, but also for catching murderous ex-mates who might be looking for their cubs." Then he looked from the horizon down to Destiny. "That is: I will make a fortress, set the traps and collect the food. You can relax, and eat. Eat lots. For yourself and for the cubs."
Figgy pushed himself up into a sitting position, then offered her a paw. "Sound like a plan?"

She felt her head softly being stroked, a sense of warmth and comfort soon flowed through her as she listened to what Figgy was saying, nodding in agreement. Her eyes soon widened when he stated he will make a fortress with traps. While she 'relaxed and ate'. Although she appreciated his intentions towards her, she wanted to help. She didn't like the thought of her doing nothing.
She watched as he sat up and offered his paw
She raised her brow but with a smile, she reached out of her own paw.
"Sounds good, except I'll be helping you. Don't let my condition get in the way" she said slightly firm with a nod.
She felt herself get hoisted up and she soon was back on all her fours, her rear legs slightly buckled still recovering from her traveling. She took a few steps back to try and regain her balance.
Suddenly, behind destiny, a low menacing chuckle emitted from a nearby dense part of bush. Before she could process it, a lion immediately leapt out from behind her. Straight away he grabbed her tail wrapping it around his paw tight, several times.
"An excellent plan! But you are all too predictable Destiny, coming to a place like this, you appeared straight into my paws." he sneered with a confident hiss. Destiny froze. Immediately she knew who it was, and how much he knew her. He had her straight away by her tail, her weak point and worst case scenario. All of her strengths she could use against him now lay redundant. Her ability to camouflage is pointless. Her ability to telekinetically push him away wouldn't do much either, it was only as strong as she was, and he was latched tightly onto her.
"Don't fight and make it quick my dear, just get both of us out of here. I may forgive your abandonment if you comply and let you live. Better odds than fighting huh?...." he growled.
In this split moment destiny had to weigh up her options. She didn't know what Figgy was like in combat, and no traps had been set already. She could turn around and fight herself but bared risk to her health and her cubs. She knew by the sound of the overheard conversation that if he didn't get his way, he would rather see her and them all dead.
He wouldn't wait forever and she needed to think fast. Her only logical option was to abide by his demands. Hoping she could slip away later on.
"Figgy....I'm sorry....its for the best" She said with a slight whimper in her throat. "And if you know of her secrets, don't think for one moment to touch her and come with us" The lion interrupted. "Transporting 2 lions and herself ? too much for her frail body to handle. You will kill her!" he snapped with a grin.
Destiny looked out the opening and far onto the horizon. It may be a rash decision, crumbling into his demands straight away, but she wasn't thinking straight in this moment. In her mind she had confidence that she escaped before so she could do it again, not thinking that the next time around it may now be alot harder as she would be under constant guard.
She closed her eyes and pictured the horizon. Her pelt started to transform once again translucent. It spread through her body, along her tail, and onto the other lion.
It was just now a matter of seconds before they vanished.

"Pfft. Fine. So long as you eat."
When the lion leapt out and grabbed Destiny, Figgy found himself too stunned to move. He listened to the lion's speech, to Destiny's apology, then watched as she got that far off look she had before teleporting.
"You, don't move," he said to Destiny firmly. Then to the lion, who had one paw wrapped around Destiny's tail, he said, "You really are an idiot, aren't you?"
Then Figgy leapt at him with both paws.
It wasn't much of a leap. More of a lunge. But Figgy didn't need to be that fast for the mad lion was already half tied up. Instead he threw his considerable bulk onto the lion, scrambling with his paws to hold him, pin him down. The mad lion's free paw and teeth scraped at his skin but Figgy had a lot of padding to protect his organs. Their roars filled the air as they scuffled on the grass.

Destiny and the lion were on the brink of disappearing. She ignored Figgy's plea to stay put, it was unintentional, once the process started it couldn't be stopped. Suddenly her whiskers felt the air pressure swoop past her followed by growls and roars of confrontation, her tail being pulled and twisted as the lion kept holding on. "Figgy NO!" she roared out. She tried to open her eyes to break the process put they stay sealed shut, she had to go through with it.
All in a split second she knew this would have disastrous consequences. Not only She knew transporting one lion took a drain on her, but transporting two lions plus the fact she was already still weak from the last jump? It would consume all her life. The only thing she knew is, the further she travelled the more energy was drained, so for just a small chance of surviving she had to transport as smaller distance as possible. She quickly re pictured the surroundings she seen when they got here as she felt pain shoot up her spine. Her tailed continued to be twisted and pulled as Figgy and the lion fought.
Then in that same split second, they all vanished. Destiny's whole body immediately felt completely numb. They all re-appeared several paces further into the green lands. She immediately flopped lifeless onto the ground.
"You idiot !" the Lion snarled, unwrapping his paw from her tail. He leapt backwards to regain a stronger stance of defence and glared at Figgy. He would pay for this! "You Killed her! MY Lioness !" the lion bellowed. "Killed by another freak of nature, Lions like you disgust me! Give your greed back to the land to feast upon your dead corpse" he snarled. Although the lion knew Figgy's organic 'armour of fat' was hard to penetrate, his claws after all didn't do much to his sides and back, out of all the places the neck would still be the most vulnerable. He lunged towards him with a wide open jaw, sinking his canines deep into Figgy's neck.
Although his teeth penetrated, he couldn't get a proper death grip on him, proving difficult as even his neck was well protected with a thick layer of skin and fat.
Without feeling anything or hearing any signs of warning, he was suddenly thrown with an immense amount of force, hurtling through the air before landing rough and sliding across the ground. Before the shock and confusion of what just happened settled in, his eyes struggled to adjust on a light pulsating from the direction where he was thrown from.
Destiny was standing up panting heavily, one paw stretched out in front of her while the other three hovered a mouse height above the ground. Her whole body radiating a strong white light from within her. Her eyes too glowed like two massive fireflies. Before she even could comprehend what was going on with her body and how she had managed to use her telekinesis with such strength. She collapsed back down to the ground and slumped onto her side.
The lion's jaw hung out of shock, and also disappointment. There was no way he could carry her now unconscious with a Figgy meddling, that's if she would even survive. Plus, although Figgy he despised, he knew that Figgy could stand his ground and use his size and weight to his advantage. It was too much risk for a lioness that currently to his mind, was now useless.
"You better make sure you do everything to keep her alive.....i will be back" he growled. Soon sprinting into the dense bush and scarpering.

Figgy looked at Destiny with fear as she hovered above the ground, her eyes aglow. For a moment she thought she might attack him - he had ignored her after all - but then she slumped to the ground.
"You'll regret it! Coward," Figgy bellowed after the fleeing lion. He waited a few more seconds to make sure he was truly leaving, then ran to Destiny's side.
"Destiny?" he said, poking her with his nose. "I'm so sorry... are you alright?"
When he got no response, Figgy put his head near her ear.
"Still breathing," he said, grinning nervously. "That's a good sign. We'd better get out of here. Erm... sorry about this."
With that he picked her up by the scruff of her neck with his paws, like one would a cub. Even though Destiny was smaller than he, she still wasn't so small that he could carry her like that. Instead, he used his paws to gently put her on his back.
"I'm not the best over land. Though I've always been a strong swimmer," he said, stepping down the slope towards the water.
It was a branch of the river delta, brackish and slow-moving, but clear enough he could see the sandy bottom.
"No crocs. In we go," he said, then stepped into the water. His belly was the first to enter, then his chest. The sensation of the water rising up his flanks was most peculiar, particularly the way it took pressure off his legs. Very soon he was paddling along at a slow and steady pace.
The river delta was a swampland, though quite a pleasant one to look at. It was very green. Patches of long grass and trees grew right next to the water.
"Perfect," he said. It would be easy to hide here. Easy to set traps. He could set traps in the water, too, to catch fish and crocodiles. Maybe even hippos!
Finally he found an island a little bigger than the others, the trees a little thicker. He carved a path through the grass at the edge and lay Destiny down in the shade, then sat down with her.
"Hey," he said again, shaking her shoulder. A little afraid of the criticism he might receive when she woke up. More afraid that she wouldn't wake up at all.

Destiny faded in and out of consciousness. One moment Feeling herself get pulled around and picked up. Then the next moment feeling the sensation of water passing by her paws. She didn't know exactly what was going on but at this time she wasn't in a state, or mood to ask. She just needed rest.
A little time passed and she felt herself be layed upon the ground, feeling the presence of Figgy near her. Her whole body ached and still felt numb to the bone, and couldn't help but feel Figgy was to blame.
She felt her shoulder being shaken, Using what smidge of energy she had regained, she used it to roll over, facing away from him. Letting out a trembling sigh and huff, upset. Her body slowly then blending into the colour of the grass.
She stayed silent for a while, processing her thoughts. She knew Figgy had good intentions and meant well with them, in a way she was flattered he wanted to save her. But his rash decision could of cost her, her life, even after him being warned. But then she looked on the other side of things, was Figgy all to blame ? If she hadn't of been so smitten with that other lion in the first place, she wouldn't of gotten into this mess. Infact, just blame it on the lion himself ?
She felt they all could of been accountable for the outcome. Ultimately though, she was safe again for now. She was in the presence of a lion that has up until now, done nothing but be a good friend to her.
With a strain in her tail, she flicked it up, the tuft giving Figgy a brushed slap across his face. She then proceeded to roll over, not without a faint whimper from her throat. She opened her eyes and gazed at him as they glistened.

She'd turned over. Maybe in her sleep? But no, she sounded upset with him. So Figgy waited, saying nothing for the time being.
"Hey!" Figgy said with delight, his toothy grin reaching into his chubby cheeks. But then he saw the look in her eyes and his smile cracked. "I'm glad you're alright. Sorry about before," he said, glancing away with shame, unable to meet her eye. "I know you were trying to protect me, but please, don't protect me from the likes of him. He's a fool." He reached forward to stroke her cheek, but paused, thinking better of it. As if she might bite him. "I'm clever, and you're the most magical lioness I've ever met. Literally! If we stand together against him, he won't stand a chance. Especially if you're... able to... float in the air and throw him around like a rag again."
He grinned hopefully, a little fearfully.
"Just... don't do that to me though, please?"

She nodded subtly in agreement "We all make mistakes, though one half of me was kind of thankful you stuck by me..." she huffed with a faint smile
She soon grew a concerned and confused expression when he mentioned her powers "Don't count on it for defense. I'm still wondering how it was that powerful. It's never been that strong. Pushing and shoving yes, but to float? and to throw a full grown lion such a distance? I've never felt it like that before...." She let out a long sigh as a way to calm down her busy thoughts and clear her mind. Then smiled warmly at Figgy
"So don't worry, you're safe" letting out short lighthearted chuckle.
She untensed and let her body melt into the ground, she stretched out her paws as her eyes started to droop.
"But yes, we can still stand together" she murmured as her body started to shut down, she needed to regain her strength, but inside promising herself she will put herself to better use once she had recovered.
As her paw continued to stretch further out, she felt it stop against Figgy's own. Instead of feeling awkward or retreating, she carried on, placing it on top. Before her eyes closed fully and a growing smile of content.

Figgy stayed with Destiny as the sun moved across the sky, as shadows moved across the sleeping figure of the lioness by his side.
She looked so peaceful, it was hard to imagine she'd just been in a fight. He couldn't help himself but study her fine features. The line of her jaw, the curve of her eyelids. The way her little ears flickered as she slept. She was beautiful and captivating always, but especially so when she was asleep. What a pair they made. Figgy couldn't be called beautiful at the best of times, but especially now. He was still covered in dust from the collapse of his cave, turned to mud from all the swimming. His mane was matted with blood from the fight, and he was, as always, as wide as a hippo. The world must truly be starved of good looking, good natured lions for her to choose to stay with him!
A rumble in his stomach reminded him he hadn't eaten since the elephants toppled his tree. So as twilight came he gently put aside Destiny's hand, then stood up and got to work.
There was plenty of grass around. That could work for him. It was long enough to conceal but it could also catch. But of more interest was the copse of trees on this little island. He didn't know their variety, but their roots extended out into the water.
"Perfect," Figgy said.
He reached up and walked his paws up the tree, then put his ear against it (and, inavertently, his belly too). He could hear the wind in the leaves, but also the rush of water past the roots, and the deep vibrations of the earth below.
The first thing he did was encourage the water roots to grow faster. It took a little time, but soon they were long enough to tie into loops. So he jumped into the water and fashioned them by hand. There was a creeper growing down the tree so he enchanted that too, working it around the loops of root. He made several of these, positioning them in the water just so, then climbed back on shore and waited.
It was dark by the time he was woken by splashing. Like all lions though, Figgy could see quite well in the dark. Below him something was thrashing in the water.
"Dinner!" he said excitedly, and reached down to grab it. But at the touch of its claws the creature thrashed again. The trap snapped and the something swam off.
Figgy made a face like he'd swallowed sour grapes. This was just like the beginning - he'd have to find a whole new way of catching prey. There weren't many savannah animals here, after all. But he stood and reset the traps again.
The next time he was awoken the moon was high overhead, illuminating the splashing below him. Just like last time he couldn't make out what it was in the dark water, but this time he lashed out quickly, plucking it up with his paw, and tossing it onto land. It sailed over his head and into the grass. Figgy leapt on it with as much gusto as he could manage.
The creature wriggled and squirmed but, once crushed between Figgy's well-practiced jaws, he felt the life flow out of it. It smelled... fishy, and it felt slimy, but his hungry stomach didn't care. He opened his mouth to eat...
... but then he considered his pregnant companion. What kind of lion would he be if he didn't offer her the first bite? So he took the fish - or eel, or whatever it was - and lay it down a short distance beside her.
Figgy had just started to contemplate how beautiful she looked in the moonlight when he heard another creature thrashing in the water. With barely-suppressed excitement he waddled off again to see what else he had caught.

Destiny's eye's flickered as she came around from her rest. She soon realized from the lack of light that she hasn't just had a short rest, it was a full lengthened sleep !. However, it was much needed and she felt a new lease of energy within her. Her eyes widened and she sprung her head up realizing too that Figgy was no longer next to her. She focused in the darkness, letting her eyes adjust. She was just about to call out to him but her ears flicked, picking up sounds of a slight commotion. Her eyes followed the direction of the sound and soon could see the outline of a large lion in the near distance, reflecting the light from the moon. He was by the water's edge along with the sounds of splashing water.
She was just about to take her first steps towards that direction but her nose instead caught a bizarre scent that hovered past her. She turned her head back around and directed herself towards the source. There laying on the ground was the dead body of a water critter. She didn't know what exactly it was, she hadn't eaten anything from the water before. She took a concentrated sniff at the body and she scrunched her nose. The smell wasn't as appealing compared to the likes of a zebra or antelope, but her instincts kicked in and her stomach growled. Though her nose was confused at the smell, it was like her stomach was telling her to eat it, plus the inside of her mouth started to water and already has started to lick her muzzle. She only just had large meal the day before and swore her body was still processing that, but apparently her instincts were telling her different. "If food is available, eat it!"
Before her thoughts were consumed into eating, she took a moment to reflect how it got here. It didn't just curl up and die, it was caught. By the smell it was fresh and only just been killed. It was now obvious about the splashing water and Figgy - he was catching food. In a way she was surprised she didn't figure that out straight away with his track record of his love for all things edible. Also, it seemed he had caught this and left it for her before going to catch something for himself. He had put food aside for her before he fed himself. Inside she couldn't help but melt a little inside from his gesture.
Her little soft moment soon subsided as she lay down next to the food, soon wrapping her mouth around it and biting down. It tasted better then it smelt, the new sensation danced on her tongue which made her mouth water more. Unlike tough meat which required alot of pulling and chewing, this just felt like it could melt in her mouth. Even though it was largish critter, due to its slimy smooth texture it took only a matter of seconds until it disappeared, sliding down her throat with ease with only a couple of bites. She stretched out across the cool dewed grass and let her meal set in her stomach. It was a weird sensation of eating something so quickly and filled her hunger just as much. Of course, she was now eating for more than herself, so wouldn't pass the opportunity for more - if offered. But she was satisfied for now.
She rolled on her back and turned her head towards Figgy, which she could still make out. It seemed he had found something. She thought if she should get up and see what's going on or if he needs a paw. But she also knew he has done this all before and she may just get in the way of his hunting. So she stay where she was. Though for some reason, she couldn't take her eyes off him.

Figgy stopped to ponder as another fishy critter slipped away from his paws. "Snares need to be stronger," he said. A quick bit of magic and he had thickened them considerably. Likely, they'd be able to snare a small crocodile without breaking. "Bit more tension," he said again, then added as much to the snares. Then he stepped back and waited.
The water calmed. All he could hear were the sound of the night chorus of insects. The moon hung ominously in the sky and in its reflection danced the shadow of water bugs, skittering about the surface of the river. But then something disturbed the tranqil picture. Something big moved under the water.
The first thing Figgy felt was excitement, and anticipation at getting something to eat. But it was soon replaced with a nagging doubt. Suddenly, he didn't want to be standing half submerged in a river with creepy critters swimming around his feet. Especially not ones that big. What if they were hungry too?
There was a snap, like the closing of jaws, and something enormous leapt out of the water. Figgy screamed in terror and shrank back, but when he opened his eyes there was no creature before him. Instead he raised his eyes heavenward, where a four-foot long crocodile was sailing through the air, catapulted out of the water by one of Figgy's traps.
"Too much tension!" Figgy said, then turned inland to intercept the croc as it fell. He leapt back on land as quickly as his bulk allowed, but stopped when he saw Destiny watching him. "Oh, hello there! Feeling better?"
The croc landed between them with a thud, dead as a stone.

As destiny gazed at Figgy, not really realizing she hadn't taken her eyes off him, she watched and listened to his antics as he operated his traps, along with his own remarks. His enthusiasm and intelligence in his actions was inspiring, and amusing. She continued to watch, but her expression was that of something she hadn't displayed before, almost like something warm and fuzzy.
She snapped out of her gaze when she heard a loud snap, all of a sudden a crocodile landed between her and an approaching Figgy.
She couldn't help but let out a giggle, slapping her paw over her muzzle from her outburst, and slight embarrassment. She cleared her throat and glanced towards the ground.
"Much better...thanks...." she said with a shy smile "and thanks for the food, it was different, but went down a treat!"
She glanced back up at Figgy, her smile still beaming from her muzzle, and for some reason she couldn't shake it off. However, maybe in a way she didn't want to.
Still, Before things could feel awkward, she wanted to continue the conversation. "Looks like you caught yourself a substantial meal huh ?" She winked.

"You're welcome!" Figgy said, beaming. About the crocodile he added, "Eh. That's just a baby. They get at least twice as long as that! Have you ever tried crocodile tail? It's delicious!"
With that he stepped forward, putting his paw on the crocodile's hips, and pulled the tail off with his jaws. He laid the tail down before Destiny.
"Try it. If you don't like it, I'll eat it," he said, and then stood waiting to see her reaction.
However, before Destiny had a chance, there was another crack from the water's edge. Another Another fish sailed through the air, though not straight up. It shot out like a bullet and thwacked into a tree trunk, before flopping and flicking in the grass.
"Bonanza!" Figgy said, and leapt over the grass to pounce on his prey. Once the fish was killed he looked back at the river thoughtfully. "I really must do something about the tension, though. Can't have the traps flinging fish at us all day and all night."

Destiny chuckled at Figgy's remark before soon spreading her paw across the ground to grab the crocodile tail that was offered to her.
"Regardless, your traps are still impressive, they are a work of art how you make them." she nodded. "Besides, would be a convenient midnight snack if a fish was flung in my direction" she grinned.
Her attention was quickly diverted to the crocodile tail. Although she had just eaten, she couldn't resist the offer of another snack. She was quickly getting accustomed to the abundance of food. What she once had to fight hard for, was just being handed to her. One half of her didn't mind this, but the other half told her not to get too comfortable with this. But, for the sake of her cub's health and what she has been through recently, she needed her nutrition and energy.
She quickly chomped down on the tail in half, it was a bit harder to work with compared to the fish, but tasted good!. She rolled the other half of the tail with her muzzle towards Figgy, motioning him to take it. "Thanks Figgy... though you spoil me" she said softly with a subtle grin. She soon stood up, followed by a long stretch and yawn, She had slept alot it seemed and it started to show, she felt a new energy fill her body as she started to fully awaken. Tonight it seemed she would stay awake for the remainder of it, so it was time for a drink.
"You tuck in, I'll be back soon" she said as she brushed past him, heading towards the water's edge.
Soon arriving, she lowered her head and started lapping up the cool fresh liquid, feeling it slip down a treat and invigorating her body and mind. As she done so, he watched as the moonlight danced on the surface of the water. This natural display was hypnotizing, she soon lay back down on her side and gazed along the waterline. Although she enjoyed and embraced her new companionship with Figgy, sometimes just a small moment of solitude was needed. Her tail flicked side to side across the ground as she lost her herself in her own thoughts for a short while.
Today had been...eventful, and she was worried for the what the future held. For her, her cub, and quite recently...Figgy. She literally had bumped into this gentle giant a couple of days ago and she felt as if her life had started to take a turn in the original path she had laid herself. Then again, this original path was destined to be bland, and maybe risky. Instead she now had a friend.
She rolled over and looked upon Figgy in the near distance. Instead of being hypnotized by the moonlight on the water, she was now found to just be gazing at him instead. Even though it didn't really bother her to begin with, she looked past the size and bulk and could see the Lion he was inside - caring and thoughtful with a happy, positive energy vibe.
She let out a soft sigh under her breath and continued to look at him, her attention however did soon divert to how he looked on the outside. Although larger than life, his body language and expressions came across as kind of adorable. Soon, the single thought of them hugs he mentioned fluttered in her mind. She could understand why he stated they were the best!. She yearned a warm embrace from a friend, it had been too long.
Suddenly something else fluttered. Either she had just her disturbed digesting meal by rolling over or it was something else, but she started to feel a weird sensation in her stomach.

"Ha, didn't think of that," Figgy said, still beaming at all of Destiny's compliments. Nobody had paid Figgy a compliment in a long time. Well, except Destiny. Since they'd met she'd practically showered him in compliments. It felt good!
Almost as good as food.
Figgy barely hesitated when Destiny pushed the rest of the tail towards him. As the lioness wandered off Figgy watched her go, the way her tail flicked and her legs moved. She really was skinny. There was something exquisite about that, but he looked forward to her putting on weight too. Maybe then he wouldn't need to worry about accidently breaking her.
He finished the rest of the crocodile in short order, though he was careful to leave the bones intact. He had plans for them. Then he set to work on the foliage of the island.
The grass was long and soft. It made for good bedding in patches but it was also full of weeds. A little of Figgy's magic and they soon wilted, leaving over the soft grass remaining. He made tracks through it, too - paths of bare earth where the grass wouldn't always be tickling his belly. Then he had an idea - he could weave the grasses together to make a net. Catch more fish.
He sat down to his task, willing the grass runners to grow together. When his creation was finished he picked it up in his teeth to carry it to the water's edge, near where Destiny swam. "I had this idea," he said, then noticed the look of concern on her face. "You ok?"

Destiny watched as Figgy approached her with his newest creation dangling from his mouth. That smile of pride while doing so didn't help the weird sensation in her stomach. However, in some ways she didn't want it to stop.
She couldn't help but grow a smitten smile, turning her head away to try and hide it. She cleared her throat and gave her head a good shake in an attempt to wipe this silly smile away, it felt too soon.
"I'm fine...emotions started to wonder all over the place, don't mind me" she tried to reassure.
She briskly sat up and pawed at the 'thing' being held in Figgy's mouth, she hadn't seen anything like it before. Whatever it was, it was expertly crafted, Figgy's abilities shining through again. It was a good excuse for her to change the subject.
"Does this idea involve this thing you have made by any chance?" she raised a brow, then that same smile from a moment ago, inadvertently returning.

Figgy beamed back at her, feeling pride in the fact that she seemed so... happy. Especially when she looked at him. That was new. And nice. He found himself grinning back when she said:
"How'd you guess?" he said, and winked one green eye. Then he waddled to the shoreline. "It's a net. I'm hoping it'll catch fish, then I can pull it out of the water and we can eat a bounty. We'll see, eh?"
Figgy stepped into the water awkwardly, with the net in his mouth. He looked about for a place to put it, but noted an area where the stream was narrow. After fastening it to some roots he generated he doggy-paddled his way back to Destiny before entering the shallows.
"There! And now, we wait," he said, sighing. There was a moment of silence, nothing but the sound of wind in the grass and birds in the trees. Then he turned to Destiny.
"So... what you wanna do now?"

She watched and admired Figgy setting up his traps, she was going to offer a paw but it seemed he knew what he was doing, and done it so with such ease and planning that she decided not to intervene.
After he finished, they both stay silent. Destiny trying not to keep too much eye contact, she instead gazing out over the calm stream. The current just strong enough to play its sound of nature, giving her a soothing melody in her ears. She soon became entranced once again in moonlight dancing on the surface. This atmosphere was a welcome change as opposed to earlier. She couldn’t help but momentarily think again of what path lay ahead. When will her ex mate be back? Will he return soon or will he return in the months to come when she is less able bodied as the cubs grow larger inside. Or maybe when after they are born ? It’s easy to defend yourself, but trying to do so while her cubs are running around ? Things will be a lot harder for her. Figgy promised protection which she really appreciated, especially since it seemed he wanted nothing in return, like an unconditional kindness. She now realised why her stomach was fluttering, it was because of him. Still, she could not help but worry, no matter how prepared they may be, there is always chance for something to go wrong. She didn’t want her cubs to suffer. Soon her thoughts were interrupted.
She turned and faced Figgy, without warning this feeling quickly expanded, exploding inside, rushing around her own body. It wasn’t magic or special powers, it was a more natural power. She leapt up onto her hind legs and wrapped her paw’s softly around his neck, as much as the length of her legs would allow anyway. Her paws sank into his thick mane and cushioned by his pelt underneath, before squeezing him gently. Her head was pressed against the side of his own, and almost being consumed too by his mane, she couldn’t help let out a few tears that quickly soaked into his fur.
She wanted to explain her actions but couldn't get the right words in her mind. How do you explain gratitude to a lion that it seems doesn’t expect anything in return. She hoped this embrace was the answer. “Thanks…..” she squeaked.

The sudden hug surprised him, but soon Figgy relaxed into it, releasing a tension he didn’t know he had. Perhaps it was her warmth, or the feeling of her breath in his mane. He put his arms about her slight frame and held her tenderly.
“You’re welcome,” he said. “And thank you!”
Figgy spent the next few months turning the island into a home. He made traps, made paths through the long grass, and set snares especially designed for lions, in case they had any uninvited guests. The food he caught was more than enough, but not nearly as much as what Figgy had caught in the plains. At least at first.
One day Figgy found a fig tree seedling. “Fig trees are awesome!” he told Destiny. “Not only because they’re named after me, but because they can grow huge, too!” He cleared a little space about the sapling, uprooted nearby trees that blocked its sun, then set about using his magic to make it grow.
Over time, the fig tree grew huge. It went straight up at first but sent out long, low horizonal branches as thick as Figgy’s waistline. Within weeks its leaves and limbs covered the majority of the island. But Figgy wasn’t done yet. Those long branches dropped down roots, which thickened and wove together to make walls of living wood, creating a maze of rooms and tunnels within the tree itself, including ramps going high up into the tree’s canopy. It became their home.
And with their new home came a newer, more plentiful supply of food.
The trees roots extended far out from the edge of the island, into the clear waters beyond, and they brought back a multitude of wildlife for them to eat. Each day was a feast of fish, or crocodiles, or even the occasional wandering wilderbeast snagged and drowned by the roots. One day they even caught a hippo, and for days that was all they ate, though oddly, Figgy insisted they keep the bones rather than cracking them open for marrow.
Each day was a feast, and Figgy made sure Destiny participated to the fullest. He gave her all the best parts of their drowned catches, always encouraging her to eat a little bit more – “for my own good!” he said. In truth he took pride in Destiny’s wellbeing, and perhaps in looking well fed as well. “If I’m fat and you’re skinny, it just makes me look greedy! Rather than a good provider,” he told her once. Perhaps he was a little overzealous with his encouragement, but he never forced her to do anything she didn’t want to do. Destiny was far from skinny by the time he was done.
Of course, with all the food around, Destiny found Figgy’s waistline expanding as well. The round lion ate with abandon, determined not to waste any food, but also seemingly entranced by it. It was almost as if he couldn’t help himself; if there was food around he had to eat it. Consequentially his neck grew thicker, his cheeks became puffier, and his already enormous belly widened until it hung almost to his toes. Despite moving a little slower he otherwise seemed fit and healthy, and deliriously happy. After all, Figgy’s favourite thing was food. His other favourite thing was being in the company of his love, Destiny.
They would spend their days (or nights, but mostly days) sleeping in a nest Figgy had grown high in the branches of the fig tree, leaning out over the water, in full view of the sky above. By day they enjoyed sleeping in the sunlight. By night they could watch the stars twinkle.
It was there, almost two months since they reached the island that Figgy said, “Have you thought about a name?” He was stripping away the crocodile's skin – Figgy was always eating or preparing food – but he stopped to look up from his meal of crocodile to look Destiny in the eye. It was night, when they were usually awake, and Figgy grinned at Destiny. “You know, your eyes glitter in the starlight. I hope your cubs get your looks.” He grinned at her, then bent down and bit back into the crocodile remains. "You want something?" he said as he worked.

Destiny was in a little world in her own mind, admiring the view from their nest. She didn't want to admit it out loud, but she almost felt like royalty over these last couple of months. Everything that Figgy had done to this place to make it into such an amazing home, she was forever grateful for. Of course Figgy done this not just for her but for himself, but it was obvious he had put so much effort into making this place as comfy and more importantly - as safe as possible for her and her future little furballs. Thinking of herself surviving alone all this time now sent shivers down her spine. Now instead Figgy had made her life all the better, and she felt gifted to have him.
She was spread and stretched on her side, gazing at the night sky above, still in her own little world. She suddenly felt a rumble in her abdomen which diverted her attention from the sky. She tucked her head around and daydreamingly looked at herself. She had came to a more of a healthier weight compared to her fragile frame she used to be. Maybe a little too much ? However this didn't bother her, she needed the reserves for her current condition. Currently, she felt a little hungry but these rumbles felt different, she soon came to realize that the lives she was creating had started showing signs of making themselves known. Her heart started to race a little, all of this started to now feel real. She -is- going to be a mum. With the added support, care and protection of Figgy though officially not the father, he had treated her thus the cubs too, like his own.
Her tail flicked with an almost nervous excitement what lay ahead. Before she could think any furthur, Figgy spoke.
She huffed with a sarcastic smile, rolling her eyes amused, and flattered. Though she had gotten used to Figgy's charm, it always was a welcome compliment. She just didn't want to admit it directly. Instead, she slowly stood up, feeling the weight in her stomach shift and her legs tremble slightly as if they were still half relaxed and not ready for the burden to bear. She then flopped down against the side of Figgy's body, resting against him as he continued to eat, using his body and warmth for her comfort but also to give him some closer company. As she untensed, the little rumbles returned, she knew it wasn't possible but it was like the cubs knew they were close to their 'foster Dad'. A gentle purr started to vibrate in her throat from this new strange feeling of being an expectant mum. Her sarcastic smile soon changed into a more genuine, yet slightly serious one. "I have a few in mind...however..." she paused, and looked him. "I would be honored if you chose the first one" she hummed a single chuckle. "After all you have done, it seems only fitting". Not knowing how he would react, she shyed her head away.

Figgy paused mid-chew as Destiny sauntered closer. Did she mean to do that? The very sight of her made his heart race these days. She no longer looked like a little girl that needed protection. She looked... queenly. Her curves suited her more than skin and bones ever did and, in Figgy's mind, belonged to the monarch of a successful pride who no longer needed to hunt for herself. Despite still being much smaller than himself, Figgy was constantly awed by her presence. Her beauty.
He couldn't help but let a little shudder of delight as she sat next to him. Had she noticed? He couldn't tell. He rolled over just a little to accommodate her, propping his head up on one shoulder, running his paw down her spine affectionately as she spoke.
Figgy stopped mid-stroke, eyes wide.
"That's quite an honour!" he said, then grinned. "I'm touched! But erm... I've never... well." He cleared his throat, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "Mrembo and Mzuri are nice for girls, though perhaps a little overused these days. How about... Kulindwa? Or Nzuri?" He looked into her beautiful blue eyes. "They mean protected or blessed. But... what are some of the names you were thinking of?"
He really didn't think his suggestions were very good, but he studied her to see how she would respond, one paw resting on her shoulder blades.

Destiny smiled warmly, Listening to Figgy's hesitancy as he spoke. She couldn't help but feel it was kind of adorable. He then began to give a few name suggestions all while one of his paws was laid over her back and the other one on her shoulder, making her pelt react and fluff up.It was moments like this that gave a vibe of feeling warm and cosy.
She remembered when they first met, and when on the first night she accidentally rolled into him while asleep, feeling extremely awkward. Now here they both were, laying next to each other and discussing cub names. How things change...
"Kulindwa...Nzuri...they are really nice" she nodded subtly.
"I'm only half way, but I have this feeling its more than one or 2, we we plenty of names to think about, heh" She said, with an almost proud look on her face of her accomplishment.
"Well, I stand by what I said, the choice is entirely yours"
"Like I made mine...." she said, but her voice lowered. She pawed awkwardly at the ground and her ears flattened.
"One name I wanted to to give...is Msamaha"
She exhaled through her nose softly.
"It means 'Forgiveness....'"
"I know it may sound...odd, to others. But its a name close to my heart, I hope to pass it forward." she said solemnly before giving way to silence.
Before the atmosphere became too cold, she gave herself a good shake and wore a grin. Stretching out her legs and pawing the nest. In a spur of the moment, the grin she bared turned mischievous, her ears flicked up, her tail started to sway from side to side, her eyes lit up with a playful gaze. Without warning she pushed herself up and latched onto Figgy's ear, pulling and tugging it with a playful growl.
"It's an honor you deserve" she said between her teeth.

"Ow! Ah, eek!" Figgy said. The change between serious name-discussion and playful ear-nipping had caught him by surprise. He rolled onto his back, bringing Destiny with him so she ended up lying on his soft, enormous belly. "You terror!" he said playfully, grabbing her wrists and pulling them away, but she kept struggling. "Leave me alone!" he said. But it was easy to tell by the look on his face that he didn't really mean it. Indeed, he wrapped his large paws around her and pulled her in for a bear (lion?) hug, pinning her against his bulky round body.
Figgy stopped. He was about to nibble at her neck, but the sudden return of seriousness caught him offguard again. Instead he noticed how she felt above him: softer than before. Heavier. Less fragile. A pleasant sensation of satisfaction welled within him. He was doing a good job, at least in one regard. For the first time in a long time he actually believed her compliment.
"Thanks," he said softly. "Just like you deserve to be happy.
"Now," he said, his tone changing to playful again. "I should let you know. I've decided not to let you go. Ever." He gave her a little squeeze. Boy, she felt good.

Destiny struggled playfully, unable to resist letting out a few high pitched giggles. It reminded her of past, younger, trouble free times, when the world felt happy and free. Tonight it all came back, and it felt good. She felt the warm comforting embrace of Figgy's trademark hug. She immediately stopped struggling and relaxed, letting out a soft and gentle sigh with a smile wrapped around her muzzle, it was like a form of hypnotism.
She hummed a chuckle in response.
She let herself sink deeper into his pelt as he gave her another squeeze, she never felt so happy and content.
"That's...terrible" she hummed another soft chuckled sigh, before uncontrollably letting a purr escape.
Her eyes shot open, did she just purr? towards him ?. She knew it was expected when feeling her cubs dancing around. But with Figgy? This was new. However, her eyes soon relaxed again and let it continue, it felt like it was right. And she didn't want this embrace to end.
Very soon, the colour of her white pelt changed. The exact same colour of Figgy's pelt spread all over her, it quickly wrapped around her entire body, from the tip of her muzzle all the way down to the end of her tail. Before long, she had completely blended in.
Destiny's Camouflage ability was not always controllable. But instinctively from the mind and heart, it was used to blend into something that made her feel concealed and safe. At this very moment, this couldn't be any more correct.
