Welcome to Lions of Greed! This RP is a highly complex experience, which is why you had to be personally selected to write for this game. If I chose you, congratulations! I have great confidence in your roleplaying skills.
With that being said, there are several rules you need to know to keep things deconflicted in this story:
1: Your actions have consequences in this story. You can certainly make an attempt to barge right into the royal court and fight the king immediately, and I won't stop you trying. But if you do so, don't be surprised when your character is killed off before they even make it into the court. Be careful about how you approach things: combat is incredibly risky and managed by dice rolls, which is why...
2: This is mainly a game about social play. You advance in this game by social manipulation and long-term plays. This means progress will be slow, and you may occasionally even lose progress if something bad happens. Do not be deterred: I am determined to see you win. But to keep the RP believable and challenging, I will not make winning a quick and easy process. There are 5 social "tiers" behind the scenes that you'll need to climb your way up in order to get closer access to the jeweled skull you seek so desperately to possess. With that being said, I am withholding information on these characters for now because...
3: There will be no metagaming. The characters you play have to know only what they know. If they aren't told something, they don't observe something happening, or have no reason to suspect something, They do not know that thing. Now, I as DM promise to ensure that there is no metagaming on my end. Many of the characters are naturally suspicious, but they each have weak points and scandals that can be abused to get around this suspicion. There will be no deus-ex machinas that save the NPC's on my end. Make sure they don't happen on yours.
4: The above rule also applies to player-player interactions. Remember, at the end of the day, only one of you can walk home with "Crown of the Savannah". That means it is not only possible but encouraged to conceal information from other players. It may win you the game. To better facilitate this, I am introducing a new system called...
5: Secret Actions. This is an action where you can message me privately here on TLKGO asking to roleplay out a secret action. I am only giving each player 3 secret actions, so that the whole RP doesn't take place in DMs. Use your secret actions wisely. In addition, when using your secret action, you will have to explain your absence from the rest of the group in the main thread in character. Players, if one of you disappears into the brush mysteriously to handle a "private matter," there is a chance they are using a secret action. This is a suspect action, and if you catch onto it, you may use this to influence character decisionmaking. However, if a character does something in the main room away from any other players' sight and they choose not to tell you, your character still does not know it. Secret actions are only for the things that you are HIGHLY concerned about keeping secret. Now, because secret information is so key to this roleplay...
6: I will not answer all of your questions. Now, if you ask me something in the OOC thread, and I simply neglect to answer, that is probably oversight on my part. If there is secret information I can't have you know, I will outright say that it's either secret information or your character doesn't know it yet.
7: Have respect for your fellow players. Several RPs have been ruined in the past by players who try to make the RP all about them. Although you may often lie to your fellow players, this is just a game, and they are just as much the main character in their own stories as you are in yours. Be kind, share the spotlight, and don't take it too personally if you get double crossed - double crossing is the point of this RP. A subsection of this: make sure your characters aren't too overpowered. As a general rule of thumb, they can only be unusually gifted at one thing. Anything else they either have to be mediocre at or (and this can actually be quite fun) be quite bad at.
8: Have fun! This is meant to be a great time for everyone involved, and if you come up with an out of the box solution to a problem, I will 100% let you see the action through. It might be successful, it might not, but I am fully supportive of getting creative.
I hope this set of guidelines sets a good precedent for the RP, and if you have any further questions about specific game mechanics, ask away below.
