Name: Unu (OO-noo) (Latin root for "Lonely")
Species: Lion
Age: Cub
Gender: Male
Fantasy Profile Link
Description:
Unu is a very basic appearance. His entire pelt consists of a single slate-gray color that matches his eyes. The tuft of his tale and nose take a deep black while his eyes seemingly contain every shade of grey depending on the angle you view them from. The only colorful portion of Unu are the inside of his ears which take on a dark-brown color.
Behavior:
Unu's behavior is just as you would expect for a cub with his history. While he is not necessarily naughty, he does not truly know how to act towards others and in certain situations that he has not faced before. While he may come off as rude he is, in his heart, a nice soul that has merely lost his way. In general he takes strangers with partial trust and partial skepticism. While he will never out-rightly avoid those he does not know, he will be sure not to allow him to be taken advantage of. Despite this, his lack of connection in his very early cub-hood as caused him to attach to parental figures (mainly those that he would consider maternal) more quickly and with more trust than most.
When it comes to him himself, Unu is not particularly shy or outgoing. While he does hide his voice from those he does not know well just yet he will not ignore or hide from them when approached. Those who do not make a point to be kind to him and spend the appropriate time with him will most likely never hear his voice outside of short one-word responses, and those who receive such responses are lucky enough.
When feeling threatened or frightened, Unu's solid composure will tend to fail and his true cub-like nature will appear. In these scenarios he will immidiatly flock to those he fails safest near, defaulting to the only other being he has interacted with if it comes to it. If there are none to hide behind he will cower with his tail between his legs and whimper like the lost cub he feels to be, to scared to even move his legs.
History:
Unu's life began simple enough. He was born to a lion mother and father that roamed the savanna with a small group. They were very close knit - as far as Unu can remember - but this knitting was not enough to hold off what they faced when crossing the boundary into unidentified territory. As they walked the grassy planes the group was ambushed by a roving band of hyenas, their menacing smiles obviously looking for blood. Unu, being the only cub in the caravan, was surrounded by his elders as his mother stood over him. With his tale between his legs and tears streaming down his face Unu could do nothing but watch as one after one his friends and family, including his father, fell to the seemingly never-ending waves of hyenas. As the final few died around him his mother looked into his eyes and spoke to him with a face more serious than ever before.
"Unu honey," she said with a quivering voice, "you have to run. Run as far as you can and don't look back." "But mom-" he attempted to say in response "No Unu. Please, just go!" With a strong nudge and a final crack in her voice, Unu's mother pushed him away and he ran for what felt like hours as he did not look back. That night was the coldest ever, his fur barely keeping him alive against the wind against his unprotected body. From that day on he continued to walk alone, never looking back, just as his mother had told him not to.
