Personality: Because of his heritage, Ares never really got to know how difficult life can be. Always trying to turn everything into a joke, even when situation seems dire. His reckless attitude is annoying for other members of his pride but he rarely is confronted by anyone. Born and raised in Corazon, he learned to respect the castless lions and animals which were the backbone of their society. Everyone keeps telling him that he should stop being so naïve, but he didn’t care. He always responds that he’d rather die with his heart on his sleeve than end up another cynic.
Others always try to get better of him trying to use his trust for their own goals but even when they mean harm to him, he always somehow manages to land safe on his paws. Those who know him closer are convinced that luck is always on his side and he will manage to get through every situation without harm. Often being treated as incompetent or not very knowledgeable because of his childish nature. In reality he’s smarter than the average lion and life taught not to stick out if not necessary.
Because of his status and posture, everyone tries to be on his good side and adding to that his unusually for Ti’wenkai kind spirit, it’s not that hard. But then, whoever gets closer to him, have to put up with complete lack of attention towards anything not to mention his long monologues where he can keep talking about dozens of topics without ever reaching conclusion, because he often forgets what he wanted to say mid-speech, distracted by something that’s currently happening around him.
Backstory: Ares was born in Kilimaro pride in south-eastern parts of Corazan territory. As a first son of a general, he was destined to take his father place upon reaching certain age, but his desire for adventure, denied him this privilege. While being in a position that almost any other lion would love to be in, he wanted to travel outside the prides territory, which was forbidden. He always had to follow rules and train almost every day to become worthy of a position he was destined for.
One day, during the hunting with rest of his family a fire started on a savannah. He used it as perfect opportunity to cover his escape. While he and his younger brother got separated from the rest, Ares knocked him out unconscious and left in safe place, away from fire, while he took the opportunity and crossed the Ti’wenkai border with outlands. The land was everything and at the same time nothing as he have been told. There were no power hungry lions waiting to attack or other dangerous animals ten times his size, just waiting to eat him. Instead he found quite peaceful and fertile lands inhabited by various creatures, some even unknown to him. After a short while he noticed that most of them, were very suspicious of him, some even threatening. Trying to avoid conflict he kept his distance from others but that wasn’t end of his problems.
Unused and too young to hunt on his own, he started to starve and one day he collapsed. When he woke up, he was surrounded by a small pack of hyenas. Afraid that they’re going to eat them he jumped on his paws trying to defend himself but collapsed shortly after from exhaustion. Hyenas instead of attacking him, started to laugh. Seeing that he’s no threat to them and finding him amusing, they shared food with him. They have easily accepted him among them, since he was still young, they thought that raising lion of their own would be amusing and very useful in the upcoming future.
Year have passed and Ares started growing fond of his new family. Being afraid of returning, he decided to stay with them but his fate was decided to be different. A pack of seekers, hunter lions that went outside the borders of Ti’wenkai lands to hunt for slaves and to steal potential soldiers, proven they were young enough, found his pack. They’ve got rid of the hyenas easily and cornered him. He was no match for seasoned soldiers so he had to obey and follow them.
When they arrived in Corazan, because of his scent he was immediately recognized by his father who instead of embracing return of his lost son grabbed him by his neck and tossed at the cave wall. For few next weeks, whole family chewed him out for what he has done and no one wanted to listen to his explanations. Because of his exploit, not his family lost the prestige but as well had to make his younger brother, heir to the general’s title. To keep his return secret, he was forbid of telling anyone who he really is. Instead he pretended to be a family relative.
Shortly after he finished his training in the agoge, a civil war within Ti’wenkai erupted. Corazan attacked Nedra and in result, rest of Ti’wenkai sided with the invaded kingdom. Corazan has been pacified and kingdom itself has been crippled. In result of the conflict, Ares father has died and his younger brother after some struggle took his mantle. He reinstated Ares into family but sent him straight away to serve Corazan’s High General, so he would never be able to challenge him.
Shortly after another, bigger conflict started, that engulfed whole Ti’wenkai in chaos. In result, whole country has been crippled after bloody civil war. As soon as opportunity arisen, he has been sent away to the capitol to serve as an advisor to the new warchief. He wanted to protest, since his diplomatic knowledge was only a theory but it was not for him to decide.
Physical appearance: As a son of one of the generals, Ares never had to struggle for food. By right of the family he had the privilege to eat first and most succulent meats, which combined with demanding physical training made him strong and quite bulky male.
Handsome and looking bit younger for his age, with sweet talk, he always was considered as a good catch, but his adventurous nature prevented him from getting into any serious relationships. After breaking few engagements organized through his brother, he earned not only his ire but also a nickname “untameable”.
