My First Hunt

[Nailyila]

Nailyila bounded out from her den, breaking away from the other lionesses. Today was her day. She was going out on her own to chase the antelope... "Nailyila..." Nailyila whipped her head around at the sound of her familiar father's voice. She sighed. "Yes, dad?" She said, rolling her eyes. She had heard this speech before... "Nailyila, please, just promise me you will be careful. "Dad, i'll be fine. Just trust me. I'm not a kid anymore." Nailyila said, breaking her father's gaze and bounding off the Pride Rock. "Be careful!" She heard her dad call one last time. Nailyila gave a sigh. She crounched down in the grass, hiding her light colored pelt as best as she could. A pebble knocked to the side as her paw scooted across the ground. She watched as the herd raised their heads. She gave a gasp and bounded out, chasing after them with all her might. They were too fast. As they got farther and farther away she came to a slow stop, panting. Nailyila rolled her eyes. "I'm not good at this hunting thing..." Then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a lone antelope, lost from the herd. She crouched down, lightly and noiselessly steppng across the ground. She pounced, bringing the antelope to the ground. She swiped her paw across it's flank, making it lunch for her. "Maybe i'm not so bad at this after all..." She said triumphantly.

A black panther sat in the tree a short distance away, somewhat of a smirk on his face as he watched her, must be the youngster's first hunt... full of mistakes, it might of got her the antelope today but tomorrow... day after... they might be different results. He yawned and stood up before jumping down and looking her straight in the eyes before walking up to her "Not bad short stuff... for a cub..." he said with a grin, his manor was friendly enough though the cub comment was clearly meant to annoy her as he was clearly only 6 months older than her.

Nailyila narrowed her eyes. "I'm much older than what the Prides would consider to be a 'cub'." She said, rolling her eyes. "I know i'm not much of a hunter. But i love the feeling of the wind in my face." Nailyila said, turning her head to face the wind, as it blew through her fur. "I know what you saw of my meer hunting skills was probably nothing compared to what you possibly do." Nailyila said giving a smile, and giving a sarcastic tone. She didn't want to anger the panther, so she popped a smile to, meaning the phrase in a playful way. "Why don't you show me what a real hunter is." She said, licking her paw and laying down on a boulder just feet from her.

J'ha smiled quickly before saying "well I would not want to discourage you.. well you know, watching a master hunter like myself... but I could take a little cub like under my wing and teach you a thing or two... " he said teasing her, he liked teasing, not in a nasty way but playing around. He look her up and down and then added "Mind... I think some of this padding needs losing.. you'll never keep up" he continued teasing with a grin on his face.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila gave a grin and narrowed her eyes. "You're a teaser. Quite like myself, really. We'll see who keeps up and who doesn't." She said, kneading the ground impatiently. "I am quite hard to discourage, by the way. You may teach me some things if you wish about hunting, if i'm so amateur with it. Teaching a meer mortal about hunting must be kid stuff to you, is it not?" Nailyila said, raising her eyesbrow, playing along with the teasing.

"Well I guess I could show you a muscle rippling male, with super agilty, ability to leap tall trees in a single bound and drop dead looks in action!" he replied to her still grinning she was kinda fun and cute.. in a new hunter way... of course he did't notice things like that.. but hey.. it did't hurt having someone around.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila rolled her eyes and smiled at her new friend. "I'm sure you just make those girls drop dead in a second with those looks, huh? Sure, okay, let's see what you can teach." She said smiling and rolling her eyes again, teasing."

He grinned at her and replied "Well ok... better find those others of its herd then.." and he started walking in the direction that they had run in.. it was't long before they came across them, he shook his head slightly, antelope were such stupid things it was almost to easy to hunt them. He looked at her gave a wink and went into stalking mode moving slowly and stealthily, stopping here and there, moving slowly towards the biggest one.. it was docile.. wind blew across the opening - then he sprang into action, the antelope bearly had time to react before he was on it. Bringing it down quickly hanging onto the throat pipe, before long it was dead and he looked up back to where Nailyila was.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila raised her eyebrows. "Impressive. I'm quite amused." She said smiling. She walked over to where J'ha was and sat down next to him, watching him eat his catch. "That seemed quite easy to you. And i'm sure it was to someone of your ranking." She said teasingly.

He grinned at her and raised a paw and patted her on the head teasingly and added "stick with me and you'll learn everything" and he looked at her then added "I would offer you some, but I'm helping you with that diet.." and he chuckled a bit, he was of course joking, he would't be bothered if she wanted some.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila chuckled. "Right... I'll learn just everything won't i?" She said smiling playfully. She sheathed her claws and kneaded them in the grass. "My father is probably wondering where i am by now..." She whispered under her breath turning her gaze back toward The Pridelands. She turned back to J'ha and smiled.

He looked at her thoughtfully a moment before saying "Do you want me to walk back with you or maybe you want to stay a bit longer" he asked her, he would go back with her if she wanted, it could be dangerous alone away from a pride.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila looked in the direction of The Pridelands and then back to J'ha. "I think my father will be mad if i stay out any longer. Come back with me won't you?" She said, tilting her head to the side and giving a smile.

He nodded to her and smiled before bending down and getting the kill before pushing it onto his back.. there was use in wasting a perfectly good kill and he started walking with her "I'm J'Ha by the way" he said to her, his muzzle slightly blood stained from the kill.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila smiled. "That's a nice name. I'm Nailyila. I know, it's a strange name. But my Pride is all about weird names..." She said rolling her eyes. She brought her paw to her mouth, licking it and rubbed it across J'ha's muzzle. "You have blood all over it." She said, shaking her paw.

He smirked at her rubbinh his muzzle with her paw and teasingly says "and here was me thinking that you were younger than me and you are actually all grown up..." he waited to see how she would react to his little tease of her.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila rolled her eyes. "Ya, all grown up, huh?" She said nudging his shoulder playfully. She rolled her eyes again and gave a smile. "I told you, i'm quite hard to discourage. So you'll have try harder." She said, narrowing her eyes. "We've got to hurry up anyway. My father is probably getting angrier by the minute. I'm already passed 'curfew'." Nailyila scoffed and narrowed her eyes at the thought of her father. "He treats me like such a child. It angers me. I'm not a kid anymore..." She said, baring her teeth as she thought more and more about her father's protectiveness.

J'Ha looked at her thoughtfully again, she seemed resentful slightful of her fathers orders and he told her a little of himself "Its been quite a while since I've seen others of my kind... I'm sure he just cares for you.. it can be hard alone in this world!"

[Nailyila]

Nailyila rolled her eyes. "I know, I know. But i'm no cub! I'm not a cub anymore! I listen to my father, i adore my father, but he needs to learn that i'm going to grow up and go out on my own someday..." She said flattening her ears. "What's you story, J'ha? How come you're not in a Pride or anything?" She said raising one eyebrow and cocking her head to the side.

J'Ha glance down at the ground, a pained look on his face for a few moments before taking a deep breath and saying to her "They're dead... all of them... there was another pride that wanted our hunting ground... they took it by force". He sighed slightly before continuing "My mother hide me and when I came out there was nothing but death in the air... and bodies... I ran away, there was nothing there for me anymore and I could't fight those others alone... even if I'd been old enough... and so - here I am now!"

[Nailyila]

Nailyila's eyes were full of compassion. She put her tail on J'ha's shoulder. "I'm so sorry that happened, J'ha. If you'd like, you can live in The Pridelands with me and father and all the others." She said smiling. "Come on, let's keep walking. We got to get home soon." She said, picking up the pace.

He nodded in acknowledgement and smiled and said "That could be nice..." as they jogged along at a brisk pace, he barely managed to keep the kill balanced on his back, he was't entirely sure what living with a group of lions would be like but he did't suppose it could be any worse than being alone.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila looked back at J'ha. He had a look of worry on his face. "Don't worry, they'll love you!" She said, smiling. She grabbed the kill and hauled half of it on her back, so it balanced on the two. "This will pick up the pace a little more. We have to get moving." She called out, picking up the pace to match J'ha, who had already picked up his pace.

They moved along fast now and he had to admit it, with her sharing the weight it was easier and faster and pretty soon they were at the place new her cave were she had made a kill and he let her guide them to the group.

[Nailyila]

"Come on. I'll introduce you to my father first." She said padding into the den and weaving around the lions and lionesses. "Father." A big burly lion lifted his head and looked at Nailyila. "Yes? Who is this?" Nailyila gulped. "Dad, this is J'ha. He wants to be apart of The Prides." She said giving as best of a pleading as she could. "Nice to meet you J'ha. Are you a friend of my daughter?" Nailyila's father asked, raising his eyebrows and towering over the rest of the lions.

Thanks! I've been RP'ing for a while actually. Writing is like my passion. So, I'm not COMPLETELY inexperienced.

Generic stood in some grass, shaking himself dry. After his recent experience with a crocodile, he was intrigued to find out the name of the lioness who had saved him. He glanced up at an overhanging rock. That was where he had followed her to. She had been with another though... a male panther.

J'Ha nodded "yes, she is my recent friend... nice place" he added as small talk as he looked around, it was pretty much a standard cave but it did't harm to be polite about things.

[Nailyila]

Nailyila smiled at J'ha and then looked to her dad. "So, Dad... Can he stay?" She asked as calmly as she could without letting her voice crack. "Of course." Her father replied before plopping back over on his side to fall back into his slumber. Nailyila rolled her eyes. "That's my dad... The mighty hunter." She whispered in J'ha's ear. Nailyila chuckled. "So, do you want to go back to the pond? So we can continue with those 'training lessons' Nailyila said giving a playful smile. She had picked up the teasing game once again. "Besides, there was a young lion down there a while ago who i helped escape from a crocodile attack." She added looking down at the ground.
