Leela was approaching the other two unaware of why they were stopped and was about to tag them both but slowed down hesitating wondering what they would just be standing there... a shiver went down her spine and the hairs on her back stood up, she was feeling frightened.

Sprung, yet again! A female voice, harsh and as fresh as the jagged, young peaks of the Midday Moon Ranges resounded in his memory. "You Imperials! You are so noisy and hideously pathetic at remaining invisible. Completely useless!" The green flicker of black eyes like wet stones razed passed his consciousness. He shuddered. Shook his mane to banish the thought. His pelage clung to his contours faithfully.
Aquiline curled his tail over his back. The feline symbol of benign intentions. His tail was as thick as a dinnerplate and ended in a bulbus, pointed tip; the fur holding together as one mass. Slowly, Aquiline stood and gauged the cubs' reactions. He was just over twice the size of most male lions, but with longer legs. The sun was reaching its peak. The heat shimmered off Aquiline's ebony coat and he glittered electric blue in the light like an immaculately polished black car. It accentuated every muscle. He cocked his head, the mangled notch on the left browridge gleamed silvery grey with scars. Slightly embarrassed, he gave a harmless laugh. "Sorry, I have to do this. I've got a leak that's gone straight to my lungs." Aquiline half closed his eyes. His belly and chest began to pump heavily. A deep airy roar like the constant turn of the fan of an old Cadillac rose up from deep inside him. The cone airbrakes in his nostrils moved aside and he widened his nostrils. Steam poured out of his nose and curled around his head, rising, evaporating in the tepid African air. He arched his neck downwards and breathed harder. Opening his mouth, vapour billowed out and gave everyone a sauna. "What a relief. I was drowning." Aquiline wiped sparkling water droplets from his nose. He looked from Leela, to Tembara and Taro all looking like possums in the torchlight. "What are you playing?" Aquiline said casually. "No need to be afriad of little old me. I haven't done anything, have I?"

Leela jumped as this voice sounded out and a noise like thunder followed and she fell over her own feet in fright and rolled onto her back, feet dangling in the air and eyes wide open, her heart was beating like it only had moments to live, oh it hurt thumbing so loudly to her, the booming in her chest. There not far away was like some giant of a lion perhaps 4-5 her size... she felt like she was going to be sick, she wouldn't even make a light snack to such a huge lion, as she laid there panting the lion said about not being afraid of him, he'd done nothing to them.
This was true but still Leela couldn't help that fact she was afraid but she was trying to get a hold of herself, trying to breath slowly and waiting to see what the other two did... was this why they'd been standing still?

Taro's body was now shaking uncontrollably. He was only a small cub, and his bravery and resolve was wearing thin.
The stranger was not a large animal, but it was huge compared to the cubs, and even though it said it did not mean them any harm, Taro was terrified by the strange noises the animal made and its odd behavior.
"G-go away! M-my m-m-mom will come and b-beat you up! D-don't come any closer!"
As Taro yelled, his voice became higher and squeakier.
All the fur stood up along his spine, his breath came in quick gasps, his claws were extended, and his pupils shrank so that all that was visible was a tiny black pinprick amidst a vast green iris.
He waited for the creature to respond with bated breath, and he felt like his heart would burst from the effort it was putting forth.

as the massive black lion - like creature stood up in the long grass, Thembara screamed. He was utterly terrifying to her as he was of course several times larger than herself. She started crying when he started steaming - she couldnt help it. She had tried to be brave but to her he was the most terrifying thing she had ever seen. He may not have done anything yet ( well, nothing apart from scare her senseless ) but she just couldnt stop. OCC: sorry if Aquiline actually is a lion you have just implied that he isnt!

( I wrote up a profile on him in the Fantasy roleplay section if you want to know what poor Thembara is crying about! You can think about Aquiline's species there, Kira.)
Thembara's scream made the gigantic, black, leonine form shift his weight back. The steam cleared, revealing an apologetic expression in his mild crimson eyes gazing softly over them through the permanent scowl his bony facial structure imposed on him. He smiled faintly. A true smile would show his fangs. "I'm sorry. I've frightened you to death and spoilt your game. You cubs have sharp senses. Don't worry about the steam. It's just water. My lungs were filling up with water when I was sitting in the grass."
Aquiline looked at Taro closely and peered as deeply into his green eyes as the cub would feel comfortable with. This cub was slightly older than the others, by the appearances of things. "You're Mum will be fine. She may not want to see me...she may not know what I am. Has she told you about creatures like me? Have you heard of Luxans or Argentums?"
Aquiline's attentioned turned to poor Leela, lying with her legs in the air. Her eyes like those of a stunned mullet. Her tiny body convulsing in extreme fear. He put his whiskers forward and they separated from their unified form. They were as thick as large drinking straws. He waved them in her direction, leaning forwards, all the tendons and muscles tightened to bear the load. Veins crawled over them like content serpents. He worried that this one was hyperventilating, but heeding Taro's request he moved no closer. His massive head twitched with conflicting drives, he turned slowly to the side. His mane hugged close to his body inn some vain effort to look smaller and less threatening.
Aquiline moved into the open, where the grass was shorter, so they could clearly see where he was. He had a huge mane, bigger then any of the cubs had seen. It was on his belly and kissed his hindlegs. But underneath all that fur his body was lean, more like a cheetah on steroids. He walked in extreme slow motion with a cheetah's halting gait, for he had the same high set shoulderblades. He had to. He could cover three metres in a single stride and that may be too quick for the cubs' nerves. He walked over to the shade of a tree and reclined. He was facing away from them, effectively pointing his dangerous business end away from the cubs. He nestled his head over his shoulders and closed his eyes. The metallic turquoise sheen of his eyelids shimmered back at them like foil.

Leela blinked, she did't know what to make of this lion, he had been so closed to her that his big whiskers had been very clearly visible, he looked at each of them in turn and then went a short distance away looking away from them.
Leela struggled back onto her feet, looking at the others before looking back at the lion, her heart was still beating in a feelable manner but it had slowed some what, she wasn't feeling as scared now, perhaps he hadn't meant to scare them by appearing so suddenly, yet such a huge lion was still a bit frightening, he made her mother look small.

Aquiline tilted his nose skywards, stretching his neck with a deep resonate moan, flicking his whiskers up and down. He linked them together and tucked them close to his body. He glanced over a solid shoulder, cloaked by the bulk of his mane. His eyes were the dull red of congealed blood. They hinted vague misery. A small dash of indecision trembled in the embers of his optical fires.
He watched the tiny Leela make her recovery. He was relieved that he didn't have to revive this one. He had been in that position before. He hoped that his appearance was not too off-putting. Aquiline looked away once more. He must obey the feline protocols of good conduct. Cats did not like the friendly stare of humans and Aquiline tried hard not to look threatening.
