A pride of Lions have been walking for many days and nights, they've lost many along the way but they have also gained some. They've fallen in love and are falling in love and finally have reached a place they can call home. Somewhere safe and warm and large enough for them all and then some.
(Okay, so the site's been kind of quiet lately so I decided maybe a new freestyle roleplay to get things going again! Anyone can join, no need to ask permission just post! As long as, of course, it fits into the storyline!)
Their land was a vast opening, stretching as far as the eye could see, sand dusted the centre of their homeland stretching out about thirty or forty feet in a surprisingly neat circle, bordering the sand was miles and miles of grass, quivering in the afternoon breeze. Trees dotted the area, mixing the brown of the trunks with the green of the grass and leaves; there was a large boulder, towering higher than most where the Pride gathered together on a night. Huddling together in the cool night air to share warmth. The Pride always had to be careful though for a large watering hole that brushed against the edge of the rock could always creep up on unsuspecting, sleeping pride members and cause them to drown, it hadn't happened to the new pride yet obviously, but the concern was still there, especially when it came to the older animals who couldn't move quite as fast. The waterfall creating a comforting lulling hum in the background for them all helped them sleep on a night, it was like a gentle lullaby that never seemed to stop and never got too loud or too quiet just one consistent sound.
There was no specific leader here, in fact they all led each other. Working together as a team to succeed in everything they tried to achieve - sometimes unsuccessful, but sometimes incredibly successful. This was the Grasslands.
Lailah:
Under a lone tree planted in the centre of the sandy circle, a young adolescent lioness sat in the shade of the looming plant, her fur - the colour of caramel - helped her blend into the Savannah surprisingly well. How else could she have survived so long when she was so young when they first started travelling. Her chest and underbelly were a beige that melted into her main pelt easily, like an artist's paint stroke subtle and beautiful. She was unique in a way she had no muzzle markings but that wasn't the thing that caught the attention of others. No, what caught the attention of others was the unique bright blue eyes flecked with grey and green, much like seafroth encircled by dark brown panda eye patches. Lailah sighed contently and closed her eyes, the lioness' eyelashes tickling her face. "Lai!" A voice called, lengthening the 'ay' sound. Lailah opened an eye and grimaced as she her brother bound, (rather clumsily) towards her.
"Zeke." She replied, lengthening the first 'e' in his nickname; mimicking him easily.
"Hi, hi!" He greeted, Ezekiel was similar colouring to his sister except he did have beige markings around his muzzle and his mane, which was still growing but was already surprisingly full and thick, was the same muddy brown as his eye patches.
"Hey Zeke." Lailah replied with a rather disgruntled expression.
"So, I was thinking about going hunting for the pride, do you want to come with?"
Lailah, raised her gaze to him steadily, her expression thoughtful. "If you promise not to scare everything away then yes I will."
"Awh, come on little birdy." He whined.
Lailah scowled up at her brother, he always knew the right things to say to get her to follow him. "Fine." She muttered, pushing herself into a standing position and shaking her fur out. Now stood up Lailah was the size of an average lioness, next to her litter mate she felt and looked tiny, like a cub just going into adolescent. She had to curse her father's side of the family for producing such large males.
"Good, now come on let's go!" Ezekiel grinned, leaping away from his sister leaving her to pad behind him slowly.
Ezekiel:
Ezekiel strutted along wearing a rather smug expression, he always knew that the nickname 'little birdy' got Lailah to cave in. Although the affection amused him it still felt like a punch to the gut whenever he spoke the words as he thought back to their parents who gave up the fight halfway through their journey to the Grassland. Little Birdy had always been the nickname for Lailah whereas, 'Rough 'n' tumble' had been his nickname. "Why do we need to hunt anyway? We could just have got fish." His sister grumbled behind his back.
"Because, Lai, we haven't had much time to ourselves since we got here. I miss spending quality time with my baby sister."
"I'm like ten seconds younger than you!"
"Yes, but as your brother even if it is only ten seconds I still want to protect you and besides if I leave you alone you might starting batting your eyelashes at a boy and I don't approve of that."
"Oh come on Ezekiel sooner or later I'm going to find a guy who I actually like and I'll want to settle down."
"No, I'm not having it, I don't want any male to give you unwanted attention."
"It's only unwanted by you, I want attention from a nice smart male. I want a mate and to settle down and maybe even have a family one day."
"I don't trust males Lai, especially none in the Pride."
"Oh come off it Zeke; you get on well with some of the males in this pride. And you get to flirt around and eye up lionesses so why can't I for lions?"
"Because it's not safe."
"How is it not safe?" Lailah demanded, starting to shout a little causing Ezekiel to stop dead and swing around to face his sister. "Because I've seen what father was like with mother!"
"Mother and father fought. All couples do, all families do. We do, mum and dad loved each other, you just needed to look at them. I want that Ezekiel. I want someone to look at me the way our parents did." She lowered her gaze to the floor and Ezekiel sighed heavily before going to Lailah's side and nuzzling her.
"I'm sorry." He sighed, gnawing on his lip, "Come on let's just do some hunting."
