Cheeze, you're more then welcome to be an RP master if you want to take up the challenge (as is anyone else), but I'll have to ask that you hold off for the time being till we see how this test RP that I'm working on goes. If it goes as well as I'm hoping it will then we'll establish a permanent place for it on the forum and open it up for other users to make their own RPs. However, it could also crash and burn, in which case adding it too the forum wouldn't really be a good idea. I'm obviously not referring to the RP story itself but to how the RPers like/react to the new rules/play-style. Happy to wait if needed, but I was thinking I'd just open a new RP in the freestyle RP lobby, label it as a dungeon-mastered RP (or whatever we want to call it) and see how things go. I've got a few ideas for an RP that would be good for this, like putting lions on a mission to rescue the princess, for instance;). Just something really basic. Not creating a whole new section or anything. Does this make it simpler?

You're always welcome to make an RP in the fresstyle area Cheez, but given that this type of RP would require special rules I don't know how well it'd work for you. Since the free style falls under the general forum rules etc. We unfortunately can't make exceptions for single RPs because then everyone will want to make up this or that for an Rp with their own set of rules etc if you get me.
I know the release of this RP I've been working on is taking some time, but it will be coming out soon enough.

Can't really do this anymore, busy with work and life now :< But I hope it goes well and you guys have fun. If you want a more 'true tabletop' experience, I suggest going to roll20.net and playing with the interactive table/chat room there.

I figured I'd post an update here to let you guys know what the situation is with this thing. So if any of you have read the thread where I said I was leaving for a while, you'll remember that I mentioned that I'd be launching the new rp idea once I returned. This is still the case and the goal. I'm hoping to have it up on the forum sometime this weekend, giving me enough time to get over jet-lag, get settled back at home, etc, etc.
I'll mention it now in this thread before the main one appears. The rp I'll be running at first is a test, to gauge the reactions you the members have toward something of this type. It will utilise some modified rules and operate differently from nearly all the current and past RPs on this site. That being said, while I'm obviously welcoming anyone who wishes to join (up to a certain point since I don't want tons of Rpers in it), I would be appreciative if those that join are willing/able to give me feedback and to participate in discussions about the new style. Since this is the first of its kind the rules/etc that will be used and how things operate will probably need to be tweaked before it's released for all of you to make RPs etc as you please. Keep in mind that this is also to determine if something like this is worth having on the site, almost like a field test, much like the way the fantasy section was observed for the first section of its life to decide if it should have been permanent.
Think of this as a beta almost.
If anyone has any questions about it feel free to ask them here or message me.

As a veteran DnD player, can I except it to be similar to a DnD session but without the whole dice concept? From what I read though this seems to be the case.

I'm glad to still see there is interest from you guys for something like this and yes Leto, you are correct in your assessment. While I'm not copying the D&D style to exacts, it is of a similar concept. I do have some concepts to determine certain things, such as a random number generator to determine how severe a condition received to a character can be. I've also considered letting people choose skills which would help determine what kind of leeway the characters will have in certain instances, plus to also spice things up as well as to prevent someone's character from being an "ace of spades" so to speak. These are of course, are things that you guys will be helping me work out during the test RP, to see if they are features worth having or if they make the RP too complicated etc. That is the reason why I'm looking for people who will not just RP but be able to give some feedback.

Then I'm definitely a wizard, or an academic, or something:). I may not be able to make it for any "session," but I can definitely post regularly in the RP. Can't wait to start:).

Hmm. With more info on the game mechanics, I think I might be able to give this a shot sometime. Saturdays are usually not doable for me, but Sundays are usually free. Fridays depend; have been getting into Friday Night Magic, but I don't -need- to go every Friday night. Depending on what the skills are, I'll probably lean more toward a roguish-type character by D&D standards -- plenty of utility skills for adventuring with.

I usually play Druid or Ranger, sometimes Bard too in DnD settings. In this case however I may just play a druid-type as that sounds the most fun.

hahah, well I'd hate yo burst your bubble guys but when I said skills that's not exactly what I had in mind. What I was considering was a bit more low key and less fantasy based.

Very keen to see what this will be, Pulsar. When can we expect it to be running? I'd like to participate but have a contract coming up.

To answer your question Cheeze, I had hoped to have it up and running today, but some work items set my time-table back a tiny bit. I'm working on the last of it as we speak and assuming everything goes well (i.e. I don't get more work thrown at me) then you should see it in the next day or so.

I'm guessing more work got thrown at you;). Are you still planning to implement this?

Unfortunately Cheeze, this idea was scrapped some time ago. I unfortunately forget to state as much. At the time I had too much on my plate and there wasn't really enough interest to make a whole new section on the forum.
