No one freak out, I am perfectly fine now. Excluding a mildly hoarse throat due to some extensive coughing and extreme tiredness due to a night not slept very well.
Yesterday I got a major allergic reaction from the restaurant at our faculty. As some of you might know, I'm extremely allergic to peanuts, and the worst case scenario is that I choke to death due to swelling of my throat. Thus, I am very picky about what I eat, so I am 100% certain I hadn't consumed anything with them myself.
However, they were making some clam wok with nuts in the open grill that our faculty's restaurant has, and - unbeknownst to me - my allergy seems to have grown so strong that I now get reactions from smell alone. This has never happened before, and there was no way for me to be prepared for the reaction I got from the steam that came from the grill when they were making the wok. Add to that the fact that I noticed my reaction around 6:30pm, I hadn't eaten anything since lunch, and my reactions always begin the instant I get even smallest amounts of nuts into my system.
I have medicine for my allergy, so when I noticed I'm reacting to something, I took one of them. Around 7pm I left home with Adalgeus, and throughout the whole way I thought it was getting worse and that as soon as I was home I would have to take another pill. At 7:30 I was starting to freak out when the medicine had no effect, so, in true panic style, I called my mum who told me to call the hospital right away. I did, and they told me to get there asap. My parents live 350-ish km away from here, none of my friends with cars were around, and the one who has a car had hers in maintenance so she couldn't help me either, so taxi it was. I'm very grateful to the taxi driver though, he seemed to notice I was panicking and calmly instructed me to how to get to the ER when it became clear I had no idea how to navigate the building (hadn't been there in around 15 years, and never by myself). Got to the ER, they took me in, gave me some cortisone to treat the swelling of my throat and put me under surveillance for the next 6 hours. Only, at the point when I would've been able to leave it would've been 2-3am so they gave me the option to stay overnight, which I rather gratefully did.
By morning my reaction had ended, though, as I said, my throat is still rather hoarse from coughing. The doctor who treated me also gave me some stronger antihistamine that I have to take at mornings for three days, including today. He also instructed me to get into extensive allergy tests since my peanut allergy has actually never been officially diagnosed, and it would be good to also see if I'm allergic to some other things, and also how strong my allergies are. I also wrote a rather lengthy feedback to our faculty's restaurant about the whole ordeal and how I would very much appreciate it that they take it into consideration to remove the nuts from their menu. The restaurant is situated in the big central lobby of the faculty building, and due to the layout of our faculty, it impossible to get into any of the classrooms without going through the lobby, and despite our ventilation the smell will still spread around the building, rendering the whole place potentially hazardous for me to be in at all.
My dad was nice enough to come here for today. He picked me up from the hospital and has been keeping me company, and it has helped me not really dwell on what just happened too much (goodness knows I did enough of that last night).
So.... yes! That is my past two days shortly. How is life with everyone else? :'D
