While Diwani had been speaking Pulsar took note of the fact she said they were "called". Perhaps the baboon's escort are as such reluctantly. He couldn't help but wish he had managed to run into some of Adhama's faction earlier while he had been traveling North through that region. Having some previous rapport with them or their comrades would certainly have come in handy right about now.
When she finished speaking, he nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes, that's right. Though I can speak only for myself. I've only just met the other two..." he gestured to Feroz and Kanai. He didn't say anything more than that, after all, he was still waiting for her response to his question on whether or not they would be allowed to tag along. A thought crossed his mind with the fact that they were soldiers from the kingdom to the South. What were they doing escorting animals through the area to the West? Surely that's outside their territory? The hippo said their leader was chivalrous and honourable and so on, but what of that could bring about him sending his own lions to escort random animals around and possibly outside his own territory no less. For the time being he decided to hold his tongue. No need to pry just yet, it could hamper their chances of being allowed to go along, or, his chances so to say.
Pulsar wasn't overly concerned about what the other two predators wanted or intended to do, he'd only just met them after all and like that Pulsar had his own plans and things he needed to get on with, one of which, was getting West.

Diwani looks at the bigger lion and the leopard hiding behind him. He cracks a hardly noticeable grin. "And you two?"

Feroz looked to Diwani. "Uh... I don't mean to cause trouble, sir. I was just wandering through here looking for a place to lay my hat is all" He said, meekly. "As for her-" he said, looking to the leopardess with an apologetic smile. "Please don't give her too much trouble. She was just minding her business, and she seems nice."

The leopardess looked up at the burly lion’s eyes and smiled. “Thank you,” she whispered to him. Gathering some courage, she came out of hiding and addressed the pair of lion knights nervously, but trying to be polite.
“My name is Kanai, I am a student of wildlife travelling in search of different animals, and I’m here for the baboons…” She paused and clenched her teeth with her eyes wide open, realizing that could have been taken out of context. She was sure she heard some baboons starting to rage. “I-I mean… to study them! I’m studying animal behavior and habits. I’ve been travelling for weeks looking for animal study subjects, but so far I haven’t had much luck, until now that I found this waterhole, that is.” She paused again to take a deep breath and sigh.
“Baboons are such a rare sight in the northern lands where I come from, and I took an oath in front of King Mizani to not harm my study subjects, my interest in them is purely academic really. So I was wondering... if you good lion knights are escorting these baboons through the western hills, would it be alright if I joined you in your quest there? I’d be grateful if I could just study these baboons a little further during their migration. I promise I won’t eat a single one of them, I’ll just observe.”
Kanai looked up at the baboons on the tree branches. “Besides… they’re so adorable,” she said while smiling at some baboons frowning at her.

Diwani looks back and forth at the three of you for a moment, and then his gaze rests on Feroz for a moment as his expression becomes a bit more stern. "The bigger one, Imara." The lioness allows a brief moment of excitement to cross her face but quickly reverts to a more neutral expression as she approaches Feroz. Diwani calls out to Pulsar and Kanai. "You two should step aside." Imara stops, facing Feroz, standing tall, with an authoritative air about her. "Prepare yourself for trial by combat." With that, she presses her paw to the left side of her chest in a salute, and then in a single motion, lowers herself into a fighting stance." (OOC: I'm going to roll a D20 for both Feroz and Imara. This is the roll for initiative. Whoever rolls the highest has the first turn.)
Roll For Initiative Feroz: 1 Imara: 4
Imara begins to sidestep around Feroz. Feroz, surprised at the sudden shift into combat from such a relatively calm situation, tries to get into a stance and stumbles over a rock just briefly enough for Imara to take the opportunity. With a lunge, she goes in for an attack, (Str:10) raising her paw to hit Feroz in the face. (Dex:8) Her paw lands firmly on his right cheek. The force causes Feroz to stumble a bit because of his unpreparedness (Dex: 11) but he manages to catch himself and regain his balance. Imara steps back, readying herself.

Feroz, stunned at the sudden combat, regains his composure, and nervously replies "What is going on?" before he attempts to upppercut Imara directly to her jaw.

"What is going on?"
"Shut up and defend yourself!" Imara shouts as she moves forward, attempting to put more pressure on Feroz.
The large lion sweeps a paw upward as Imara gets close (Str: 20) and finds purchase directly underneath her jaw. The force is powerful enough to throw her back onto her hind legs and she falls over on her side but catching herself with her front paws. (Imara is now considered prone and must take a turn to get up rather than attack) Only a moment of anger passes through her before she grins.
"There it is..." Imara rolls herself away quickly as she gets back to her paws, growling.

"Why are we doing this?" Feroz says, before trying to pounce her and pin her down.

Feroz, wastes no time after asking his question and pounces her (Str: 11). Imara doesn't quite have enough time to react before Feroz is uppon her. (Dex: 6) The lioness then uses her hind legs to kick Feroz off of her. (Str: 16) She succeeds, throwing Feroz off to the side but not with enough force to cause him to stumble. Once again, Imara gets to her feet.
Diwani calls out to Feroz. "Trust me, friend, this is in your best interest."

"Friend? Friends don't try to kill each other!" Feroz exclaimed as he aimed to punch her gut.

As Feroz throws a paw at Imara's gut (Str: 5), she just barely jumps out of the way (Dex: 7), feeling his paw graze her fur. Imara pauses and her stance becomes much more relaxed as she waves a paw dismissively.
"Enough." She says calmly. The lioness walks back to Diwani's side. Then Diwani speaks up.
"You've all proven yourselves trustworthy, though, I must apologize for Imara. Sometimes, you do not truly know someone until you fight them. What is your name, warrior?"

Feroz turned to Diwani. "My name is Feroz. And I'm not a warrior. Just a lone rogue on a pilgrimage" he said rather shyly, looking down and to the right in a tone uncharacteristic of his size as he twiddled with a paw.
"But don't hurt my friends. Hurt them, and you'll see something much worse than a warrior." he said as he tensed up and furrowed his brow.

"Should the rest of us expect the same?" Pulsar chimed in after Feroz had finished speaking, an eyebrow raised as he approached back toward the group. "If my passage is dependant on fighting a female..." he paused and glanced Imara over, making it obvious as he did so. "... who could probably put my face in the mud with little effort..." he paused once more, a coy smile appearing on his face. "I mean, I'm no stranger to having a little tussle with a female... *cough* BUT, I don't usually end up regretting the whole event after the fact." His coy smile shifted to a more sincere gentler one. "Let's just say I don't think I'd fare as well as our companion here." He gestured his head toward Feroz.

Imara growls faintly and narrows her eyes, looking at Pulsar. She walks away, ignoring him as she heads to the tree and out of earshot.
Diwani steps in. "It seems you hit a nerve with Imara." He said softly. "You should be careful. She's a little sensitive around that sort of subject." He then turns to face the rest of you, but more towards Feroz. "I do apologize. The point of such a trial was not to see who can win. Sometimes the most important things to know about someone can only be found out in combat. Combat reveals who is a coward, who is brave, who seeks to protect, and who seeks to kill." You can see Imara in the background, barking orders to the troupe of baboons. They all begin climbing down the tree and grouping together in the shade. "Looks like it's about time to go." Diwani says as he makes his way back to the tree to join Imara.
Once the baboons are all together, Diwani stands before them, the hills in the background. "Alright." His voice came over the troupe and they were all silent. "We're about to begin our journey. You should all stay together. Hold hands if you have to. Keep the little ones in sight. I'll be leading us and Imara will take the rear. These three will be coming with us." A soft murmuring begins to sweep over the baboons as doubt begins to set in at the mention of you three joining. "I trust them. They will be added protection, but we shouldn't run into any problems anyway." Diwani paused to let the instructions sink in. "Is everyone ready?" The baboons gave an affirmative sound. "Alright then. Let's go."
Diwani turned and walked while the baboons followed and Imara took up the rear, keeping watch to make sure nobody was left behind.

The sudden combat trial between Feroz and Imara took the leopardess by surprise. She became increasingly worried about Feroz as both lions fought, as well as about Diwani and Imara’s intentions with them. The temptation to run away while everyone was distracted with the fight haunted Kanai, but she couldn’t just leave a new ally like Feroz alone.
But Kanai was relieved when the combat finally ended, seeing that it was in reality some kind of test. She thought of all the tests she had to do herself months ago, which she mastered gracefully, but those had been theoretical tests about animals, never something as physically demanding as a combat. A different kind of test that she would most likely fail.
Diwani’s words echoed in her mind: “Sometimes the most important things to know about someone can only be found out in combat. Combat reveals who is a coward, who is brave, who seeks to protect, and who seeks to kill.”
She hung her head down and sighed looking away. I guess the coward would be me, she thought.
As preparations were readying for the trip to the hills, Kanai tried to walk alongside the lined up baboons, while keeping her distance well enough not to scare them. Their social interaction and ordered cooperation was a sight she wouldn’t miss for anything in the world, which brightened her enthusiasm for the trip again.
She saw Feroz walking on the other side of the baboon group. There was one instance when he and Kanai made eye contact, and she smiled at him.
“Good fight,” she said.

Feroz blushed at Kanai's compliment, smiling back at her. "Thanks!" he said, before walking a little closer to her side and noticing a bit of anxiety. "Are you okay? You look a bit nervous." He tried to crack a smile at her. "I won't hurt you, I promise."
