The Great Hunt
Aurochs were long considered extinct on the African continent, but legends still remain. Rumours abound that a white Aurochs is living in the Kungo, a large forest at the heart of Africa. The Kungo is a vast jungle, threaded with mighty rivers, mountains, waterfalls and ruins of ancient civilisations. Tales of monsters abound, and species of monster that nobody has ever documented before. There are other tales too, of giant crocodiles and panthers twice as tall as the tallest lion.
Naturally, the story of the reappearance of the Aurochs has sparked much interest. Whether for scientific curiosity, religious worship, or the thrill and glory of the hunt, many animals are flocking to the Kungo to catch or kill this legendary beast.
To encourage travel into their lands, the Buya tribe has placed a bounty on the aurochs: the winner will inherit the kingdom from the elderly, cubless king.
The Hyena Queen believes her eldest daughter was killed by the Aurochs, when she went missing years ago. She has placed a bounty on the head for vengeance.
In contrast, the secretive jaguars that live within the forest wish to kill the aurochs so outsiders will stay away.
Whatever the motivation, such a great attractor to the Kungo forests will prove to be a melting pot of species and cultures. Rivalries will form. Alliances will be tested. New friendships will be forged. With so much at stake, will pride get the better of these hunters? Or will they find themselves renewed and reinvented by their involvement in The Great Hunt?
I wanted a fairly simple idea for an RP without having to outline a ton of political boundaries or alliances etc. Ie. I wanted a RP where the players get to decide where they’re from and who they are. The above kings and queens and clans etc may be seen as motivation, but you don’t HAVE to pick an affiliation to the above. They’re just there as inspiration.
I’d really like this not to be the kind of RP where the participants make huge posts only once a month or less, like every other RP on the original style or fantasy RP pages. Long is fine but please don’t let it interfere with frequency. If you’re going to be absent or busy, I’d REALLY appreciate if you’d have someone take over your posts for a little while, just to keep the RP moving. The idea is to have fun together. Not to show everyone how many words we can put down.
I’ll be playing with Figgy, who seeks to catch the Aurochs to impress his family so they’ll let him rejoin.
The jaguar clan might make an appearance, but they’ll be NPCs.
I’ll also play as the Aurochs, where necessary. I have certain ideas of what sort of skills will be required to catch the Aurochs, which I’ve developed for RP purposes. And no: Figgy doesn’t have those skills. You won’t be disadvantaged. But neither will you be advantaged if you make an uber-awesome character that can take down a zebra just by tracing a razor-sharp claw across its jugular.
I suppose we need 3 players to start? But the more the merrier, of course!
(btw, an Aurochs is a wild bull or cow. They're extinct in Africa now but were the forerunners to domestic cattle. They've also featured as a mythological animal in Game of Thrones).
