The forest was singing.
The wind ruffled the leaves, made some of the branches and smaller trees sway faintly and created low, humming noise from the older trees. Sunlight filtered through the treetops into the ground, colouring everything with green and yellow colours. Every now and then the treetops opened and allowed the sunlight reach the forest floor, and when this happened small, colourful flowers gave their own hues to the green and yellow.
In the middle of this all, there was a very tall tree. It was old, but the looks of it, as it reached higher than any of the other trees surrounding it. Vines hung from the branches, and dark green moss covered the trunk. It looked like a lively tree as well, and had for some unexplainable reason lived this long.
That tree was where Kyrlla woke up.
One moment she hadn't been aware of her surroundings, and the next she became aware of the singing forest. She became aware of the fresh scent that the wind brought to her, and she became aware of how lovely the wind and sun rays felt when they touched her. And then, finally, she saw.
Her eyes opened slowly, and she spent a moment to locate where she was. She blinked then, and realized she was staring at branches and leaves. Her tired mind refused to work fast enough for her, and she had to spend a moment thinking where exactly she was. She remembered very faintly how she had come to this tree, and...
She smiled. Yes, now she remembered where she was. She had merged with this tree, though if her memory served her right the area had looked very different back then. Trees had been smaller, and there had been less of them. She wondered how long she had spent asleep, and while she did so she slowly - very slowly - stepped out of the tree, and onto the branch she had been staring at when she had awoken.
Kyrlla took a deep breath, and stretched her muscles. The wind felt nice on her fur, and it wasn't too powerful for her either. She gazed down at the ground, and laughed to herself of how high she was. A growl in her stomach told her that she should get down from the tree and find some food, but she thought to stay up on the branch for a while longer so that she would be completely awake before getting down.

Rain was feeling happy.
The recent rainstorm had left dew on the leaves, with beautiful, refreshing wet grass.
He called up a rose from the ground, and smiled as he inhaled the lovely fragrance. A leaf bent slightly and a drop of dew splashed onto his nose. He laughed, and felt like young cub as he padded silently through the forest, causing patches of colourful wildflowers to grow in his footsteps.
He stopped when he reached the Old Tree. He rubbed his shoulders against the bark comfortingly. Suddenly, he stiffened.
He felt something move in the tree.
He gaped in astonishment as a lion-butterfly Thing GREW out of the tree. He looked up as it stepped out onto a high branch.
Still in shock and sure he needed therapy, Rain created a large vine to carry him up to the lion-butterfly Thing's level, slowly. When he was about twenty metres away, he began to call out softly.
"Hey, er, Miss Lion-Butterfly, would you mind telling me who you are and how you did that?"
It sounded stupid, but it was the best he could think of while stunned.

Walaani was sleeping in a bed of leaves, he smelled the air and rolled over into a puddle. "AHH, cold cold cold cold cold cold cold!" He stood up shivering, and shaking his fur.
"Stupid puddle! I'm so tired of freezing my butt off." He said shaking the water out of his fur. *poof* His hair puffed up like an afro. He smoothed it back down grumbling all the while.

"Hey, er, Miss Lion-Butterfly, would you mind telling me who you are and how you did that?"
Kyrlla shrieked out of surprise, and stumbled backwards on the branch. She had thought she was alone, and she had not expected anyone to come up to the tree this fast after she had come out of the tree. In fact, she should have been well hidden, but apparently her opinion of what was "well hidden" wasn't quite right.
She had the chance to see who had found her - a very green lion - before her footing slipped and she fell from the branch. She shrieked again, attempting to catch a hold of the branch with her claws.
Kyrlla's hold was firm, and the tiny claws on her front paws sunk into the bark. Her hind legs were kicking wildly as she attempted to take a hold of the branch with them. When she failed though, and her hold began to slip, she decided to flap her colourful wings instead. That worked a lot better, and she swiftly let her hold of the branch and disappeared into the thick leaves on an upper branch.
For a moment she was completely hidden from sigh, then slowly her small head peaked out from inside the leaves and stared curiously at the green lion with her huge, golden eyes. She didn't seem to be afraid, just startled and perhaps slightly curious, but despite of this she remained silent for now.
"AHH, cold cold cold cold cold cold cold! Stupid puddle! I'm so tired of freezing my butt off."
Kyrlla's ears twitched at the sudden noise from down below, and she pulled her head swiftly back out of view. It took a while longer now before she poked her head out again, this time only her muzzle and eyes were visible and her ears remained hidden like the rest of her body. Her gaze shifted from between the green lion and the ground, and she clearly didn't know which one of the strangers she should keep an eye on.

Rain jumped back in surprise as the cub-sized lionfly (the name he decided to give it for now) shrieked girlishly a few times and scrambled up the tree, flapping it's -her- iridescent butterfly wings until she was covered by leaves.
He darted his head down as he heard a new voice in his forest.
"AHH, cold cold cold cold cold cold cold! Stupid puddle! I'm so tired of freezing my butt off."
Rain blinked his emerald-coloured eyes a few times. He decided the female lionfly needed more attention than the guy on the ground.
"Please, don't be frightened. I'm just curious. You see, I live in this forest and it's been a while since I've seen another... being similar to myself."
He let go of the vine he was hanging from and stepped onto a thick branch. He continued to speak soothingly.
"C'mon, I'm harmless." He gave her a famous goofy grin.
He summoned a thornless red rose and used another vine to put it near her. He smiled encouragingly.

Walaani heard something above him. "What the heck?" He said looking up a them.
"Oh, I see, people." He rolled his eyes. Sitting down at the bottom of the tree, he looked at his claws.
"At least they didn't talk to me, that would be just one more thing to have to deal with." He said starting to walk away, but he stopped, thinking "Well they might be different."

"Please, don't be frightened. I'm just curious. You see, I live in this forest and it's been a while since I've seen another... being similar to myself."
Kyrlla stared at the green lion with a blank expression. She wasn't sure how to react to this stranger, and so she simply watched as he made a rose appear out of nowhere, and placed it near her. She stared at the rose for a brief moment, before turning her golden eyes back at the lion. He did seem harmless, like he said. But she wasn't completely sure just yet.
Her gaze turned back at the rose, and slowly she reached a paw out of the leaves and touched the flower. It was soft, and very much real, and a faint smile came to her muzzle for a moment before her face went blank again. "Catterfly", she said quietly, still staring at the flower. "I'm a catterfly."

Rain saw the faint smile that touched her small face.
"Catterfly, huh? I've never heard of them before. Well, I'm rare too. I look like a lion, don't I? A green lion, but lionish, right? But look at what happens in the sun."
He padded slowly towards a large patch of sunlight that filtered through the leaves near the end of the branch.
As he walked into it, he changed.
His fur absorbed the sunlight, turning it from emerald to acid green. His eyes became much lighter. Almost white-green circles went around his eyes.
"I'm sorta like a plant. I absorb sunlight. I can use the light to energize myself and others or heal."
He heard the same voice again.
"What the heck?"
He wondered why the lion on the ground hadn't come up or said anything to them yet. He decided to give him a hint.
He sent power down into the earth and created a platform of bark near the lion, attached to the top of the trunk of a tree. The tree hadn't been grown yet, but that was what would carry him up.

Walaani was abaout to walk away, when he saw somthing growing out of the tree. "Ahh!" He ran away, though a tree.
"Whoa, that could have gone better." He said as the tree fell to the side. He turned around, and the thing growing out of the tree was a platform.
"What... is this?" He said to himself.

Rain heard him.
"Twit," he grumbled.
"Hey! You down there! Get on the platform!" he called out.
He made a vine grow down to the lion. He made it point at the lion, then at the platform deliberately a few times.
"And try not to look threatening or make any loud noises or any sudden movements!"
He didn't want the catterfly to get scared. She was so small and shy.

Walaani glared at him. "I'm not an Idiot, I'm not getting on that thing." He said looking up at him.
"I don't even know who you are, and I can get up on by own anyways." He looked off to the sides.

A soft, cool breeze worked its way through the confines of the rainforest and across the tops of the luscious foliage that enveloped most of the rainforest. Different and exotic animals, be it tiny ants to large, scaly snakes, were carrying on with life.
Among all of this seemingly endless amount of life, a young, lone wanderer was enjoying just watching everything unfold around him. This lone wanderer was a lion called Urari, although he wasn't alone, but he didn't know it.
Urari walked towards the old tree, a normal routine for him, still admiring his surroundings. He was just about to emerge from the bushes and reach the tree when he caught a glimpse of another lion with caramel colored fur.
He reeled back into the foliage and closed his eyes, drawing a path in his mind for a hallucination of himself to follow. This would determine whether the lion was an enemy or a friend. However he would have to deal with major pain in order to do this.
Urari prepared himself for the pain that would follow the creation of the hallucination and then proceeded with his plan. He gritted his teeth as he struggled to prevent himself from shouting out in pain and only just succeeded in doing so as the hallucination made its way over to the lion.

"Hell..llo?" Walaani said, cauciously backing up as he approched.
"Who are you?" He said but he was thinking "More people, great, just what I needed."

Urari heard the lion unknowingly speak to the hallucination he had created. He deduced that the lion wasn't a threat but before he made his way over to him, the hallucination needed to disappear which meant more excruciating pain for another 30 seconds.
Eventually, after what seemed to be an age, the hallucination disappeared and Urari collapsed to the ground while breathing heavily and trying to regain his bearings. When he got his breath back and the pain had gone, he tediously made his way out of the bushes he was hiding in. "Er...Hey there..." Urari said, not knowing what else to say to the lion, also aware that he might make fun of his white tail tuft.

Rain was surprised at yet another lion in his forest. It was surprising that he hadn't sensed him yet.
He decided he'd better get down there to assess the situation.
He whispered to the catterfly, "You can come down if you think it's safe. You don't have to if you don't want to, okay?" He gave another carefree, reassuring smile. Without waiting for her reply, he immediately jumped straight down, a distance of perhaps a hundred and fifty metres.
While freefalling, he sent power downwards and caused the grass beneath him to grow quickly and close together so it formed a kind of cushion. He jumped off it in front off the two lions around fifteen metres away.
"I'd appreciate it if both of you would tell me what you're doing in my part of this forest? It has been a while since lions chanced upon it."

As Urari made his way slowly towards the lion, he was surprised and almost scared by the sudden appearance of a green lion from up in the tree. He only just resisted sending out beams of white light from his tail tuft and blinding everyone around him. "Please...Don't do that again. I have a tendency to...blind everybody around me if that happens..."

"Okaaaayyyy....." That certainly sounded disturbing. Like White-Tail-Tuft would claw his eyes out or something.
He gave the area a quick once-over, making certain there was no damage. He turned and spoke directly to White-Tail-Tuft.
"Well, as long as you have no intention of harming the forest or anyone in it, you are welcome. You may hunt, but please do not hunt unnecessarily or cause pain unnecessarily. I try to keep this forest a haven." He glanced at the other black-maned lion. "The same requests apply to you."
Rain breathed in the scent of wild mint, before abruptly realizing he had accidentally caused a patch of it to appear by his paws.
He quickly looked at White-Tail-Tuft.
This may not go down well.

Urari was about to relax when he saw that the green lion had just created something out of nowhere. "Wait...you just created that...How? You know, I could see you as a threat, but I don't, because I hate making enemies." He was still on his guard for any attack that anybody would make on him.

Kyrlla stared with a blank, yet slightly curious expression when this strange green lion created a platform out of the tree. She tilted her head, her attention now completely on the other stranger at the ground, but she made no other movement even when yet another lion appeared and the green lion pounced down from the tree.
The catterfly wasn't sure what she should do. Her curiosity had sparked up, but could she trust these strangers? She had just woken up, and though she hadn't said it aloud they were the first ones she saw after he sleep.
The green lion had said he was unique. She tiled her head and wondered what he had meant. She hadn't seen a green lion before... or... had she?
Kyrlla shook her head. No point in thinking of that now. Instead, she decided the strangers would not harm her for now, and if they did she could always flee from them. And so she merged back into her beloved old tree, only to appear out of it at the ground on the opposite side of the trunk where these strange felines would not see her.
Very quietly she walked around the tree, and stopped when the three felines were on her sight. She sat down and stared at them with her large, golden eyes, but made no movement to approach them. She would let them notice her... And based on how they would react she would either stay or leave.

Rain felt something move in the Old Tree again. He instantly panicked, but relaxed again when he felt the Tree go back to normal. He saw the catterfly pad cautiously towards him and the other two strangers.
"Also, this is-" He paused. He had forgotten to ask for her name. He continued on. "A catterfly, and she is under the protection of myself and this forest, so please don't do anything to frighten or threaten her. My name is Rain."
There was something about the fragile little catterfly that was just so nice. She exuded kindness and innocence like the scent of a hundred roses. He noticed she was still carrying it.
"As for your question, I created it because I can. Mint helps me focus. Here, you should try it." Rain created a large patch between White-Tail-Tuft's paws.

"Also, this is-"
Kyrlla had hard time trying to keep her face blank. The corners of her lips kept twitching up when the green lion tried to cover his mistake by introducing her as a catterfly. She raised an eyebrow curiously when he said she was under his protection. Did she really look so frail that a complete stranger was ready to protect her?
The catterfly pushed this thought aside, and turned her golden eyes at the caramel lion when he spoke. She tilted her head slightly, confused by his behaviour. What reason did he have to be so afraid of company? He looked normal, unlike she and that green one, Rain.

Rain shrugged. "Of course you may leave if you wish, but you should be careful. There are some... unusual and aggressive creatures that live in the forest, so I urge you to avoid anything unfamiliar. The desert is west, the sea to the east, with the savahnna starting in the north and mountainous areas to the south. Naturally, there are some more areas but they are the main landscapes."
He glanced upwards as a huge spider, about the size of Rain himself, woke up and shifted in its web near the forest canopy.
"If you look up slowly, you'll see what I mean by aggressive creatures. Move away, slowly. Do not make any loud noises."
Rain glanced at the catterfly. "Whatever you do, don't fly away or move your wings. That kind of spider is attracted to bright colours."
His own fur was slowly reverting to dark green, and Walaani was dark-coloured. The catterfly's wings and White-Tail-Tuft's white tail tuft could be a problem.
Rain slowly sent power down into the earth, preparing to summon deadly plants if the spider attacked.

Urari glanced up at the spider that Rain had pointed out up in the canopy and then quickly glanced away from it, his eyes wide open from the shock of seeing the massive spider. "Okay. That's weird. And quite scary too. I'm not really a fan of hairy things with eight legs that crawl around above your head, especially when they're that size." He started walking backwards very slowly. "If that thing attacks, I suggest you cover your eyes and stand away from me."
Urari remembered what Rain said about it more likely to attack colourful things and stopped in his tracks, turning his head slowly to look at his tail. "And my tail will stand out as something to attack. Now, I definitely suggest you standing back because it will be even more likely to attack now and if you don't step away and it attacks, then I'll accidentally blind you and possibly burn you."

Walaani lifted his head to see the spider. "It could be worse." He said jumping up at it.
As he jumped he started to glow blue, and in a flash he was gone. He had blinked above the spider, and used balista straight down.

Kyrlla looked up when Rain pointed out the giant spider. She tilted her head, but didn't seem to be scared at all, even after Rain warned her. She didn't turn her golden eyes from the arachnid when the lion with white tail tuft said he might accidentally injure them while defending himself from the spider.
"It could be worse."
She rose to her feet when the caramel lion suddenly pounced and apparently teleported above the spider. Her eyes became wide and she flattened her ears, flapping her colourful wings in distress. She saw the spider's eight eyes stare down at them all, before they disappeared when the caramel lion hit it and they both began to fall down.
"Fool!"
The first word she said to these strangers came out as a high pitched shriek. Despite that it was a shriek, her voice sounded almost bird-like, as if she wasn't a feline at all. She was looking different now as well. Before she had been staring at everything with curiosity, but now she was clearly enraged.
"Why did you attack her?!" she questioned, flapping her wings more rapidly now, but not rapidly enough to fly. Small sparkles fell down from her wings, glowing for a few seconds before they disappeared.
"You just alerted the whole forest", she continued. "She isn't.. or wasn't the only spider around here! And who knows what else you've woken up with that little stunt!"
She flicked her long tail and hit the ground with her other front paw in frustration, glaring at all the three strangers despite the fact that they were bigger than her.

The spider's dead body fell to the forest floor. Rain heard a high shriek.
"Fool!"
At the exact same time he yelled,
"IDIOT!"
He began shouting at Walaani. Branches shifted and the grass and flowers began to shake violently. "WHY did you attack her!?! I'm sworn to protect this forest! She hadn't harmed us and you might've doomed us all! Her children will probably swarm around us any second! This forest is a HAVEN, not a WARZONE!!!" Rain broke off for breath. "If we survive, you'll answer for this. Come on." he snapped. "There is a river over here. It is our only chance when her children attack. There will be hundreds, each at least the size of the catterfly!"
He saw a spider's leg poke out from where the giant spider had been attacked.
"RUN!!!"

Urari just stood there, as if he was paralyzed, mouth agape in confusion and shock as he watched a flurry of spider legs come down from the canopy above. The heated argument going on behind him was a blur in his mind at the moment. He snapped himself out of his 'paralyzed' state and started frantically looking around himself. Still more spiders were coming down from above. Urari started slowly walking backwards towards the others. "er...Where are we going to go now? Because I don't really want to hurt anybody..."

"-- I'm sworn to protect this forest! --"
"And a good job you did in that one", Kyrlla muttered sarcastically, glancing at the tree tops where the spiders were coming from as the green lion kept speaking.
"er...Where are we going to go now? Because I don't really want to hurt anybody..."
"What we gonna do..." the catterfly mimicked quietly, and flapped her wings rapidly enough to rise up on air. She flew at the lion with white tail tuft, and remained hovering in front of the lion's face. She was glaring into his eyes with an angry expression, but strangely enough she didn't seem to be afraid at all despite the danger above them.
"What you're gonna do now is run", she said firmly. "You don't need to hurt anyone. In fact, I advice you not to hurt anyone unless you're attacked first. If this lunatic here", she motioned with her paw at the caramel lion, "hadn't been so quick to take action, we wouldn't be in this mess!"
"And you!" she turned her glare at the caramel lion, but remained hovering in front of the one with white tail tuft. "Next time you come across with something in this forest, don't pull out a stunt like this. Or if you do, do it when you're alone!"
She glanced up at the spiders, and shook her head. "Rain, was it?" she addressed the green lion. "You say you live here, so I assume you know the way to the river better. Could you perhaps lead?"
She finally took some height and hovered above all three lions, her gaze strictly on the approaching spiders. More were pouring out from the tree tops and into the view, and if she wasn't too badly mistaken there would be some coming through the land as well. If they didn't move quickly, they would get surrounded.
"Run already", she said calmly. "I'll distract and catch you up later."
She didn't wait for a reply as she suddenly flew higher. Her wings caught a bright glow and began to drop more sparkles as she began to fly in a wide circle in the half way between the ground and the first spiders.
