(OOC: Alright. It's been like a year since I RP'd last. I'll just use this to get me up to speed.)

Could there possibly be a worse day to be on patrol? Olmurani thought to himself. It was one of those days on the African planes when it was so hot, it burned your nostrils when you breathed and so dry that you had to blink constantly because the moisture evaporated so quickly.

Olmurani was a young male lion. He had sand colored fur and a dark brown mane. As one of the males in his pride, it was his duty to protect the females and the cubs. Part of that job was patrolling the borders of the pride's territory.

His blue eyes scanned the horizon. There wasn't much to see because the heat waves distorted everything beyond a couple hundred meters. At least he knew where the watering hole was. He walked over to the small body of water and lapped up some of it with his rough tongue.

I sure hope it rains soon. Olmurani thought. Much of the water from the small spring had evaporated.

Kamaria gritted her teeth as she sunk her paws into the dry dusty soil beneath her. She had made the foolish mistake of deciding to travel during the heat of the day, instead of moving under the coolness of night, she had thought she was strong enough again.

Her nose twitched, she could smell water, she just knew it. Her tongue poked out between her dry cracked lips, but the feel made her wince slightly.
If she could just manage to get up this small rise, she knew water would be there waiting for her.

Feeling quite refreshed and rejuvenated by the drink of water, Olmurani was ready to continue circling the border when he smelled something he hadn't smelled before he arrived at the watering hole. His throat had been cleared by the water so his sense of smell had started working better. Still, the heat usually distorted most smells and he couldn't tell where the smell was coming from.

"Hello?" He called out. "Is anyone there?" His voice was low but smooth and calm.

The rise was steeper than she realised, and was using more of her energy. Lowering herself back down to laying on the hot ground, she had just unsheathed her claws and had lifted her paw to dig into a space in front of her when she heard a voice calling.

Freezing and not moving anything, she lay there with sweat dripping down her muzzle, should she stay hidden and hope they would just go away, or should she call out for help.
Her options had run out, she needed help as much as she wished otherwise, water was all she needed or else she would perish out here in the sun and end up a stinking rotten corpse.

Opening her mouth, she stopped herself for a moment feeling like she was about to be someones little snack, then calling herself a coward, she replied, softly, not being able to call any louder.

"I'm here, I need some water.",

There was a short silence and just when Olmurani decided he must be imagining things, he heard a voice. It was faint and all he could understand was the word "water". Immediately, he knew what was going on. Someone was wandering around in this hot weather and probably dehydrated. But who could it be? He recognized it as a female voice but all the lionesses in his pride were at the central baobab tree.

Olmurani found new strength that came with the sense of urgency. He darted up a hill in the direction he heard the voice. Upon reaching the apex of the rise, he saw a lioness he didn't recognize. Without delay, he hurried over to help her.

"There's water just over this hill. Let me help you." He said as he put his head under her chin. The strong lion helped the female to her feet and guided her to the small pond. He would ask her what her name was and what she was doing here later. Right now, she just needed some water.

Her eyes had closed and the hot sun was scorching her body, she knew she should fight to get to the water, maybe now was time to give up, she had been roaming trying to find her adopted mother, being shunned by whoever she had met along the way because she was a panthioness.

She heard a noise buzzing in her ear, and realised a feline was touching her and talking.Someone was actually helping her to her paws, and supporting her. Her nose twitched, she could smell precious water and it was getting closer and closer, till at last she could see her reflection staring back up at her. She hadn't even spoken or looked at whoever had helped her, quenching her thirst came first.

Slowly her head with the brown tuft touched the water and her tongue came out and lapped as fast as she could, feeling the wetness rush down her throat, some escaping her mouth and running down her neck. Shyly she raised her head and stepped back from the pond, finally looking at who had saved her life.

A young sandy furred male lion stood before her just watching and kamaria who was usually shy, still didn't speak but just returned his stare.

Olmurani watched the lioness drink. He could only imagine what it felt like to finally quench your thirst after however long she had gone without water.

Suddenly, he realized something. Why hadn't he seen it before. Maybe it was because he had been in a state of panic. This lioness looked very different! In fact, she wasn't really a lioness at all but rather a panthioness. That must have been why he didn't recognize her scent. He had never seen one before but his father had told him about one he had met. Olmurani didn't know what to say. All he could do was stare.

When she finally looked up at him, her eyes met his. He couldn't take his eyes off them. Olmurani tried to think of something to say. He was never good with words.

"Are... are you feeling better?" He said, hardly thinking about his choice of words. Of course she's feeling better! You just saved her life! He thought to himself. Olmurani was a bit embarrassed.

He's still staring at me, am I that disgusting to his eyes.
Bringing her eyelashes down at last looking away, Kamaria waited for the abusive words to start about what she looked like, but instead she heard "Are... are you feeling better?" .

Startled her eyes flew back to meet his, blinking a few times. She was surprised, so much so she moved back into the water, with her four paws now covered and stood there. Realising that the lion hadn't attacked with words or his paws, she allowed a small smile to appear.

" Thank you, yes. I seem to owe you for not leaving me out in the sun for any hyenas to find, and bringing me down to the pond."

Olmurani seemed to be in a trance with his eyes fixated on the females eyes until she broke eye contact and looked away. She was embarrassed about something. But what? Surely it couldn't be the way she looked. Her fur was so beautiful.

Her response to his question was unexpected. She stepped back into the water as if frightened by his voice. Then she smiled slightly and spoke.

" Thank you, yes. I seem to owe you for not leaving me out in the sun for any hyenas to find, and bringing me down to the pond."

The lion smiled an replied. "Well, what else could I have done?" He said as he shrugged his shoulders. "I mean, it's not every day you get to meet a panthioness." Olmurani began to pace around to her side to get a better look at her. "My father knew a panthioness once. But I'v never actually seen one before."

Wait a minute. Where were his manners? "Oh! Ummm... I'm Olmurani by the way. But you can just call me Olm." He said with a friendly smile.

Kamaria stood in the cool water, her neck cranning trying to follow the lion as he walked around her, he seemed to be inspecting her. A blush came to her cheeks, and she raised her head high and proud and waited.

As friendly words came from his mouth, Kamaria relaxed a little.
So his name is Olmurani, sort of a regal name I guess, it fits with how he looks and moves.

Feeling silly still standing in the water, she moved up onto dryer land spotting a bush providing shade from the seering sun. Moving slowly towards it, the panthioness said quietly over her shoulder.

" My name is Kamaria, and again I thankyou. Please don't feel you have to stay here any longer, I'm sure there's other places you need to be and I doubt you are by yourself, I'm sure you are being missed."

Kamaria. What a wonderful name. He thought. Bright like the moon. Truly befitting her eyes.

By what she said, it appeared that she had somewhere to go. Or maybe she just didn't want to bother him.

"Nah. I'm just on sentry duty. Everyone knows where I am." Was his reply. "But what about you? You can't just go wandering about again. At least not now. You should stay here until it's safer to travel." He took a step forward and continued speaking. "You'd be welcome to stay with my pride for a while. My father would be willing to let you stay... errr I mean. Uhhh."

Olmurani let out a disappointed sigh. He had just said the one thing he didn't want to. Of course it was probably obvious by the sound of his voice and his name and even the way he walked. But he had just handed it to Kamaria on a silver platter.

He was the prince of these lands.

Ha, i'm on a pause for over a year already and i have been on this site all that time. you can't just forget RPing, it's like writing a story.

Kamaria heard him tell her she could stay, but while turning to lay down under the bush, she lost the rest of his words. To her words didn't mean much she had learnt that the hard way, from previous prides she had stumbled upon.
She had stretched her limbs out in front and was in a comfortable spot, and turned to look at him again.

"So, you are a sentry for this pride you belong to ? do you roam about the plains or just stay in this area? I don't suppose you have come across a white bird with black markings down her, and a tail of yellow?"

Kamaria didn't seem to acknowledge the last bit of what he said. She turned and walked over to a bush where she lay down in the shade. Olmurani figured it'd be best if he did the same. He padded over to a bush close to the one Kamaria was lying next to. He shook his mane and craned his neck and then laid down.

"So, you are a sentry for this pride you belong to ? do you roam about the plains or just stay in this area?"

"I suppose you could say I'm a sentry here." was his reply to her first question. "And we just stay here. There's plenty of food and water right here." Olm glanced at the drying spring of water. "Well, usually." Her next question sounded rather random.

"I don't suppose you have come across a white bird with black markings down her, and a tail of yellow?"

Olmurani thought for a moment. "Hmmmm. Come to think of it, I have. Just yesterday. Why do you ask?" he said as he turned his head to the left but still keeping eye contact.

Kamaria thought she would get the same old reply, exactly like the others she had come across, but when this lion casually said he had seen her mother, she became all excited and lept to her paws even though her body needed to rest.
Leaning in close to him her front paws came up fast and dragged his head off the ground and she stared close into his eyes.

"You have seen Jyree ? when, where, how was she,?"

Giving his head a little shake as she was talking, kamaria then dropped his head back down, and dropped to her stomach waiting impatiently.

As soon as Olmurani had finished speaking, Kamaria was right in front of him lifting his head close to hers with her paws. Her voice was excited and her eyes were wide. She shook his head as she asked. "You have seen Jyree ? when, where, how was she,?"

She dropped Olms head and his chin hit the ground. "Ow... Yeah." He said as he rubbed his chin with his paw. "I saw her yesterday. Fretful little thing. She was in a hurry. Said she was looking for someone. 'I'm looking for my baby!' She kept saying." Olmurani looked thoughtful. "I don't understand how a bird can loose an egg."

Kamaria tried to contain her excitement, this was the closest she had come to someone actually seeing her adopted mother. Suddenly she thought what if they want to hurt her, or eat her, what if he's being sly about things, after all he's just a sentry for this pride, maybe its time I moved once its dark.

Trying to remain casual, she more slowly probed a bit further.
"So.. which way did this bird go ? she wouldn't have gone to your pride, as I presume she would be stange to have amongst that royal family?"

For a mere instant, Kamaria looked surprised. But then her face showed a hint of suspicion as she spoke once again.

This panthioness was oddly interested in this bird that Olmurani had seen. But why? So many questions were going on in Olmuranis head. He decided to just answer her question.

"She went west." Olmurani said pointing in the direction that the small bird had flown off. "I told a couple other members of my pride. They didn't think it was important."

But apparently, it was important. This bird was obviously of some great significance to Kamaria.

Kamaria breathed a sigh of relief, it seemed they didn't have any intention of hurting Jyree, she could just head in that direction once she had regained some strength , but she needed to stay close to the waterhole for a day or so.

Looking back up at the lion, she found he had no intention of moving and for some reason was content to stay where he was. His attention was starting to make her uncomfortable, was she looking so unclean or was something about her troubling him.

"umm you can go now if you want, you don't have to stay here, I am used to being on my own, and afterall I am a stranger, and you are a sentry looking after your kings pride, so, maybe you should be getting back to them, I'll probably leave once night falls."

Kamaria appeared to be a bit uncomfortable with Olmuranis presence. He stood up and took a few steps back. He would honor her wishes.

"Alright. If you prefer to be alone, then I will leave you here. I should report to my pride soon anyways. But I will have to notify them of your presence in out lands. Don't worry. No one will disturb you while you rest here."

Olmurani took a step back and turned so his side was facing her and waited for her response.

Kamaria lay there, for some reason her heart had started beating faster when he said he was going to report that she was on their land. Panicked she jumped to her paws and took a step after him.
"Please, don't tell anyone I'm here, I'll go right now, just pretend you've never seen me."

"Why do you have to notify them ? I'm not doing anything or hurting anyone?"

Olmurani turned to face her again . "I know you're not doing anything to hurt anyone but i have to tell my pride. It's just... protocols." Olmurani could hear his fathers voice in his own when he spoke the word. It was always rules and regulations with him.

Kamaria stood up and took step toward him. She sounded very distressed.

"Please, don't tell anyone I'm here, I'll go right now, just pretend you've never seen me."

She was worried. Was there something she didn't want anyone to know? Olmurani wanted to trust her but on the other hand, he couldn't just lie to his pride.

"No! I mean. I cant let you go now. Not with this heat. The nearest water source isn't for miles. But I also can't lie to everyone when I report back."

Olmurani was torn. If he stayed with her, someone would come looking for him. But if he left her, he would have to tell everyone of her presence. They would smell her scent on him.

Kamaria heard his words and started to panic, he wasn't going to let her go, he had just stated she was his prisoner. Keeping her eyes locked on his, she started to put one paw behind each other and backed back slowly, trying to get a distance between them.

Kamarias stress and panic was obvious as she put more distance between her and Olmurani. At any moment, she could bolt out of there. Olmurani began to panic too. He didn't want her to leave. Surely she would die in this scorching heat as she almost had before he found her. Olmurani locked eyes with her with an expression of concern.

"Kamaria, I cant make you stay" He said with a shaky voice. He was afraid for her life. "But you'll die if you go now."

There was a short silence between them. Olmurani took a small step toward her but stepped back again realizing that it might frighten her even more.

As the sentry took another step to wards her, Kamaria again took another backwards, then stopped. She as behaving as though she was a child, she had got herself out of harder situations than this before, she just didn't want alot of males around her, especially seeing she was a stranger, things had happened before she couldn't stop, and last time someone had got hurt.

Sensing where her thoughts were going, she took a small breath and then faced Olmurani once more.
"Thank you for your offer, I will stay for the night until I'm rested once again to be able to move."
Giving him a small smile, she hoped that was enough and he would believe her and turn and go on his way, slowly walkng back out of the water, she moved carefully around him, so they wouldn't touch, and laid herself down under the shadey bush again.

The panthioness agreed to stay finally, but with reluctance. She had seemed disappointed that he would have to tell the pride about her. Olmurani had made her stay. He didn't like it. It made him feel like a bully. How can I make it up to her? He thought to himself. After thinking a moment, he had an idea! It would require him to pretend he hadn't seen Kamaria but... Just this once. Besides, it couldn't hurt to "forget" about what had just happened.

Olmurani headed to the watering hole, passing by where Kamaria was lying. As he passed her, he smiled at her and winked. Rather than stopping at the shore, he walked into the water. Once he was deep enough, he started to shake his mane. He was washing Kamarias scent off. As he emerged from the water, he moved his mane back out of his eyes with his paws.

"I changed my mind." He simply said. "I wont tell anyone about you."

As she lay there, trying to pretend she wasn't interested in him and hoped he would hurry up and be on his way, and then she could go her way, she was surprised when he headed back to the watering hole and went under the water, rising to shake himself, and then made to go past her again, back to where he had come from.
"I changed my mind., I wont tell anyone about you."

kamaria just nodded her head in reply, and watched wearily as he walked away further, different things running through her head.
So, is he trying to trick me and he will come back with other sentries and take me by force to his king, or is he genuine and is going to forget about me and leave me alone. There's no way he would know about me having killed another and been made an outcast..

As she lay there, in the cool shade, the silence and breeze made her realise how tired she was, she had travelled night and day, only stopping for brief naps, she had to make sure no one was following her, they said they would get revenge.

Olmurani left to meet the rest of his pride. He'd have to explain why he was all wet but he felt good that he helped someone in need.

After walking a while, Olmurani wondered if he would ever see Kamaria again. She would be long gone by the time morning came.

Raising an eyelid, Kamaria could only see him in the distance now, but she kept watching till she could see him no more. Pushing her self back out from the bush, she moved back down to the waterhole and slowly went under, washing away all the dust and dirt that had stuck to her as she travelled. Rising again she shook herself dry and wandered around the waterhole to another position, where there was shade.
Settling herself down, she closed her eyes, at last relaxed being by herself and waited for nightfall , so she could move away, hopefully no one would see her and Olmurani would stay with his pride.

Well things had taken an interesting turn, like Olmurani, Nakisisa was on border duty that day, he too had been on his way for a drink at the watering hole; when he got there he found the unlikely pairing talking, he quickly moved downwind to spy on the young prince and his strange new acquaintance.

They were there for a long time before he saw Olmurani go and start cleaning himself in the water and new he must be doing. After Olmurani left he watched as the strange creature fall asleep. When he knew it was asleep he ran, after all he was late reporting in, on his way home Nakisisa met Olmurani.

"Olm! Where do you think your going? And what was that thing you were just with? He said the latter with a grin spreading across his face. He just hoped the young prince wouldn't be in to much trouble.
