Zuballa walked to waterhole. She was only a few feet away. She was exhausted from hunting and her thirst seem to increse every second. Her headstrong cub, Kali followed behind her with her nose in the air. Zuballa was now thinking of the worst. She was thinking she would be confronted about Kali. Kali had the gray fur of an outlander and Zuballa had the golden fur of a pridelander. For Zuballa was a pridelander but Kali wasn't. Zuballa continued anyway, she was too thirsty to turn back to her den. It seemed to take forever just to walk to the water hole with her mind racing. She finally reached it! She bent over and started to lap the water. Then she heard the footsteps of another lion and she jumed up and was ready to fight. She was a bit jumpy after thinking about all the worst possible things that could happen.

Misshka dozed by the long grass around in the waterhole, enjoying the peace, enjoying the depth of sleep she could now have that Simba was king, and Scar, his supporters and his hyenas, were no more. No more worrying that one of them would sneak up and bite your throat while you were sleeping. No more violence, pain and bloodshed. No more hunger. No more... But then... what was that smell? Misshka's head snapped up. She could hear lapping at the water nearby, over the twittering of the birds in the trees, but on the breeze came a foreign smell... an outsider smell. Goosebumps raced up Misshka's skin, causing the fur on her back to stand on end. They're here. By the old kings, they've come back. She sniffed the air again... smelled like only one of them. A scout, perhaps - she might be able to drive it off herself. Without raising herself up, Misshka pulled herself through the grass, ever so slowly, towards the smell of the outlander, just a little downwind. When she saw her quarry - just a little cub - the muscles in her body relaxed. An outlander cub! They were getting careless these days. Nevertheless she was guarded by a lioness at the water's edge, whose face was turned away - Misshka didn't think she recognised her smell either, though she was never the most social lioness. But the cub she knew didn't belong. Without giving away her position, she said with a deep growl, "Who brings traitors into the pridelands? Someone who doesn't value their own life!"

The worst had now happened. Zuballa's heart was pounding in her chest. But she didn't recognize the lioness and she didn't know if she should be afraid of her. She thought about the young cub and didn't want anything to end her life early. Zuballa had to think of a plan and quick. Should she take the cub by the scruff and run, stand her ground and fight if she had too, or explain and try to gain the lioness' sympathy. (She decided to do a combination) She was ready to fight her, but she planned to explain. In a position ready to fight any second she said, "I found the young cub alone. If I left her their she would've died! She was even younger when I found her in the pridlends."

"You should have taken her back to her parents then!" Misshka said, still crouching low in the yellow grass. "Likely you're the reason they've been intruding into the pridelands all these years. "Cub!" she said, addressing the little one, "Who are your parents?"

Kali was shaking. She didn't really understand what was going on. All she knew was that the big scary lioness was mean. Quivering she answered, "I have none. My parents were killed."

"Hmph. Probably a good thing, too," Misska stood up from the grass. Likely the pair would have spotted her by now anyway, and the female didn't look that tough, nor dumb enough to start a fight when there was a cub around to protect. "So why haven't I ever seen either of you amongst the pride? You," she said at Zuballa, cocking her head, "You might be a little familiar. But you certainly aren't." she said to the skinny little cub. "You've got the mark of their evil all over you. Your nose, the colour around your eyes... I think I would have noticed that wandering around. If you're not from the outlands, then where have you been hiding all this time?" She looked at Kali as she said it, but then raised her eyes to the other lioness, waiting for an answer.
