(c) to me
Name: Lycurgus
Name meaning: 'He who brings into being the works of a wolf'
Nickname: Lycur
Race: Krajiin
Element(s): Space-time/Ocean
Gender: Male
Age: Adult, Esti: 20-21
Powers:
- Wormholes; Can create wormholes that bend the very fabric of spacetime providing instantaneous travel between two points no matter the distance. Anyone else that tries to pass through the wormhole would be at worst oblierated, at best end up trapped between dimensions. It takes a considerable amount of drain on the physical and mental body to conjure these portals, no less make them stable enough for transit
- Dimensional phasing: Able to travel to and exist for a very brief amount of time in one of the other dimensions(called the astral plane by some). Making him invisible and intangible to anyone not in that dimension, he's unable to interact with anything in the planar(our) dimension while in this state however
- Biotics: Can use cluster nodes in his nervous system manipulate the physics of mass, increasing or decreasing the mass of objects which allows him among other things to preform feats of telekinesis such as pulling, lifting, or throwing objects and creatures. He can distort gravity creating small mini-singularities/vortexes that traps people and if powerful enough can do serious harm even outright kill, also use his abilities to create gravitational distortions that outright rips appart targets on a molecular level. He can also create barriers to shield himself or others against physical attacks, similarly to barriers he can also enclose oponents in a stasis field rendering them completely immobile, yet also impervious to harm for a short while
The biotics are the most physically taxing of all his powers, not only does it requier great amounts of mental resilience and fortitude to pull off, and a near constant training regiment, it also wrecks havoc with his metabolism resulting in that he has a larger calorie intake to keep healthy enough to not only sustain these powers, but also himself. This ability is constantly evolving so he's always finding new ways to utilize it, and working out what it can and can't do.
Whenever he uses his biotics, he glows with a purpleish-blue aura
-------------------------------------------
- Bioluminescence: Cells in his skin glow with a cold blue light, responds to his mood
- Water breathing: Can extract oxygen from water through gills/breathing holes on his ribs and chest
- Decompression: Can survive the pressure at extreme ocean depths
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Occupation: Warrior Ambassador/Diplomat
Personality: Cynical and sarcastic, and often painfully blunt and brutally honest. Lycurgus is a person that speaks his mind regardless of the potential of it being insulting or offending. He reserves his compassion and kindness towards the innocent and wrongfully accused, he’s not one to go back on a promise provided he can expect the same in kind. He gives respect where it’s due, but also where it’s expected of him, even if his opinion of kings and nobility in contrast to the customs of his own people are as that of abusers and sociopaths
He’s often low spoken and to the point if embroiled in conversation, he’s not one for gossip or idle banter. He doesn’t tolerate injustices, although his views of justice often differs to that of the judges which sometimes puts him at odds with people, particularly the simple common folk. He’s not one to shy from violence, or even kill if driven to such an extreme though if he does kill anyone it’s usually because they in his mind qualified as an evil monster undeserving of life
He’s rather philosophical, often waxing ideas about his people and their role on this world that isn't theirs, were he has practically devoted his entire existence to understanding and fight the evil that so often grips the sentient life of his adoptive home, but more often than not doing his job has become more and more difficult in an ever changing environment and world that is gradually showing itself be more and more grey, were lines between good and evil blur, and where evil itself is no longer chaotic but hides behind ideals, faith, and even the law in some cases
Strength/Weakness:
+ Able to survive and thrive in extremely cold environments, highly resistant to hypothermia
+ A creative, and unorthodox survivalist
+ An attentive and supportive listener, despite his cynical and often times rude attitude
--------------
- Has a strictly seafood oriented diet; fish, marine animals, crustaceans, mollusks, any creature from the sea/rivers/lakes is considered a potential prey-item
- Highly susceptible to dehydration when in a dry/warm environment e.g. deserts and the like
- Must keep the gills in his chest and along his ribs, moist near constantly if they get too dry he'll have difficulties getting enough oxygene into his system, and may pass out as a result
History:
The things that no one remembers, will become the things that never existed, right...?
------------------------
Born into a life of exile, Lycurgus came to Earth as a child, after a number of his people had been driven from their homeworld by ecological and sociopolitical upheavals. They settled in the deep oceans, hidden and secluded from the native fauna. There they tried to rebuild what was now lost to them. However life on the barren and dark abyssal plains of an alien world was naturally difficult, resources were scarce and the many clans of the once proud and highly sophisticated krajiin culture eventually devolved this threatened to reignite the wars and struggles which had prompted the exodus from their homeworld years prior; the past looked like it was about to repeat itself.
Despite his odd appearance Lycurgus is a typical example of the krajiin species; a semi-aquatic race, resembling in many aspects a feline in particular terran tigers in terms of general physique, believed to originate from another world somewhere out between the stars, or a totally different dimension all together; the tales surrounding a creation myth detailing 22 islands in between the sea and the stars are a unifying feature of the now almost lost krajiin oral traditions.
The eventual decline of Krajiin civilization is believed to have begun during the advent of the human industrial revolution at the end of the 19th Century, the increased krajiin impact on their world were slowly altering the environment of the vast oceans of Ya'shig, their waterworld homeplanet. Specifically the deep abyssal zone they resided in, which in contrast to their terran equiviliant were as fertile and full of life as a coral reef, and thus the krajiin were utterly dependent on this biome, by the early 21ts Century the krajiin had been reduced to just a few clans clinging to existence around various hydrothermal vents, by this point wars over territory and resources, as well as disease and famine were taking deep slices out of the already thinning krajiin population. In a desperate attempt to preserve what remained a few clans outright left their homeworld and wandered the stars in search of a new home, and they eventually settled on Earth.
A few decades after the Exodus as it's been called, life on Earth was proving just as difficult as it had been for them on Ya'shig, if not worse. Earth was clearly not the paradise the elder's thought it had been, fortunately the confederacy was one of the few things that had survived and remained consistent if diminished in power since their arrival on this alien world. Though the confederacy was now more attempting to preserve what remained of their cultural traditions, and prevents a resurgence of the pivotal wars that had almost ushered their extinction. It initially had little say politically but this was changed.
Joined in peace and over a more or less common goal, some of the clans worked towards searching their now abandoned pioneer settlements for lost knowledge and technology in the hope that it could be used to contact Ya’shig, their place of origin, believed to be a planet companion of the red-dwarf Gliese 667 C, a component of the Gliese 667 triple-star system, and thus device a way to return there. Other clans steered more towards a continueation to rebuild what they had left behind, this specifically required establishing contact with the surface, forming alliances and trade relations with surface animals to which the krajiin had always had a strained relationship, mostly borne out of a lack of understanding towards the natives.
Lycurgus was initially only acting as an ambassador for the confederacy working as an intermediary between land dwelling clans of the continent of Africa and the krajiin people as a whole, eventually though he was given a change of objective and now spends his time travelling the world gathering intelligence on the state of the unaccountable numbers of kingdoms, nations, and clans, and ensuring that the Confederacy are aware of any changes to the political climates or other threats that may affect his people; most of his contact is with felines, given his kind’s overall felid appearance makes relations with them relatively easier.
On a personal level he spends his time lending aid to people in need, employing his unnatural talents against the evil forces that prevades this world. But also attempts to try and get a better understanding of the diverse range of sentient species’ that call this world home, that most of his people dismiss as uncivilized savages not worth either time or consideration.
A few things puts Lycurgus apart from most other krajiin; among them is his ability to create wormholes, he can bend the fabric of space and time creating a portal that enable instantaneous travel between two distant points, the ability to create wormholes were once just as common as their now relatively weakened dimensional phasing capability, but now only a few individuals retain this power. His biotics are something completely unique to him; a puzzle to krajiin shaman’s who theorize that Lycurgus may have been altered or exposed to something unknown after growing up in an alien environment.
All krajiin possess to varying degrees the ability to shift their state of being into another dimension, referred to as the Astral plane, or etherial plane, sharing a deep connection with this place; what they see in this other dimension is disputed some claim they pay visits to their ancestral place of origin the 22 islands, others claim it’s to maintain a connection with their ancestors, though over the decades since the Exodus this power has slowly but surely diminished as they were cut off from the ethereal influences and energies of their homeworld.
What most krajiin retain of former ability are to experience the astral plane, the lands of their ancestors is in dreams. Krajiin born on Earth, lacks this ability alltogether. A consequence that has worried the confederacy since peace was reestablished between the clans. And was one of the major driving forces behind trying to find a way to return to their homeworld, before this dismal alien planet destroys their connection to their ancestors. Even if krajiin has exceptionally long lifespans, with time Earthborn krajiin would in the end outnumber those of the Exodus.
